During Trump 2.0, much of our press industry has been operating with a sense of default opposition to nearly anything President Trump says and/or any policy put forth by the administration. This emotional approach to the news has led to numerous examples of outlets putting out ridiculous coverage and commentary.
Look how they have opposed deporting hardened criminals, supported pro-Hamas student protesters, screeched loudly about efforts to cut government waste, and insisted that positive economic progress is bad news. The latest item to crop up in recent days sees the press once again opposing things they should support, and backing details that rational people abhor, and the New York Times is leading this charge. Attacks and the killing of white farmers and the confiscation of their land have been ongoing, but our media is in denial due to who is in the White House.
The press has strained to say that Trump made baseless claims about South African violence and the practice of government-sanctioned farm seizures. Reporters are desperate to debunk the administration on all matters, such as Yamiche Alcindor arguing over the white crosses showing the deaths of white farmers. This was a disputed element of Trump’s video, where a past memorial was displayed that no longer exists. However, in another part of the country, the white crosses commemorating slain white farmers are a feature. (Something the Associated Press struggles over, as it both denies AND displays the evidence of this taking place.)

This is but one instance of the press wanting to refute a detail in order to sweep away an entire story. The leading newspaper is no different, so the New York Times rests heavily on its reporter stationed in the country, and he delivers this bizarre explanation of Trump’s claim of governmental farm seizures that is supposed to be disqualifying. He literally says there is no government confiscation of farms; it is merely a new law permitting the government to take over the lands without making a compensation payment to the owners. Uh…huh.
“There is no confiscation of land.” There’s just “a measure that would allow the government to take land without providing compensation.”

Brilliant reporting from the New York Times. Thanks, guys! pic.twitter.com/kUBKx7I2fA
The story is that of South African residents seeking asylum here in the States after being targeted with racial violence. On the surface, this is an item pre-written for the press, as they have avowed loud support for immigrants and constantly rail against racial attacks. BUT – in this instance, there are two disqualifying details, according to the outlets: These are white residents, and it was President Trump’s idea to bring them here. That becomes all of the justification needed for the press to make a complete 180 on the issue, never mind that position coming into complete contradiction of their own previous stance…on display just a week prior.
The desperation to combat this verifiable story takes a ridiculous pathway regarding a well-known song in that nation that has morphed into a battle cry. “Kill The Boer” has become accepted as cultural now, yet pointing this detail out makes the Times cranky. It came out with a column that explains how this is not, in fact, a call to violence, the title and lyrics notwithstanding. The comedy behind this? At the very same time, the paper had been excitedly making harsh accusations about the current hit “Try That In A Small Town.”
The media clowns. These stories are mere days apart.

So the developments in South Africa entail an organized effort, backed by the government, to seize farmland from the white farmers (the Boers), as well as a permissive attitude towards attacking these folks violently, with many deaths recorded. Yet despite the clear display of unacceptable activity, the press is taking a shifting stance on the matter, starting with their claim that this violence has not been proven. In their tested manner, a lack of investigation by journalists has allowed for this conclusion to be made.
The Times also takes a ridiculous tack on this story, making the lurch that Trump himself is guilty of farmland seizures. If you are scratching your head about when he did this, it is for good reason. This concerns his effort to build the border wall in his first term, with some stretches crossing through private lands. Now, you can argue against the merits of eminent domain laws, but equating this effort with the complete confiscation of farms and the violence enacted on the residents is complete idiocy.
But the denials of violence persist – despite the Times itself cataloging these murders of white farmers for years. Look back at this 1998 report as an example of the paper actually covering what is claimed to be a false story.
Attacks on the farmers have been mounting. In the last four years, nearly 500 have been killed. Since January there have been 371 attacks on farms resulting in 75 deaths. Some assaults have been particularly brutal. In May, for instance, a 60-year-old farmer recovering from a hip replacement operation was tortured and had his throat slit; he died as he sat in his wheelchair. The intruders then waited an hour for his 52-year-old wife to get home; they raped her and killed her, too.
This is the status of our press corps today. They need to come out and refute the words of Donald Trump, at all costs – even if those refutations support inhuman activity, contradict their own reporting, and the cost is their own credibility.
