President Biden Continues to Reverse Trump-era Policies for No Reason Other Than Erasing His Legacy

While certainly entitled to do so, what’s notable is the lack of reasoning behind President Biden making these moves.

The desire to put his fingerprint on his administration is one thing, but then when you have the added leftist desire to eradicate anything and everything affiliated with Donald Trump it leads to the avalanche of executive orders and other actions taken by President Biden since January. Many of these moves have carried the whiff of doing so strictly out of pettiness and spite.

The latest was the announcement that the administration will be rolling back a Trump order that was limiting the popular video phone app Tik Tok, and the social media platform WeChat. Trump had intended to ban these operations entirely, based on the fact that they are tightly interwoven with the Chinese Communist leadership, and there were many questions raised about privacy concerns within the operations. Lawsuits prevented the ban, and Tik Tok and WeChat continued to operate, in limbo.

Now, the Biden administration has announced it is removing the restrictions. A pair of companies with questionable practices which are backed by a hostile government now sees the restrictions being loosened. The question is, ‘Why’, and there is not really a cogent answer provided.

The Biden Administration is committed to promoting an open, interoperable, reliable and secure Internet; protecting human rights online and offline; and supporting a vibrant, global digital economy,” the White House said in a statement.

“Certain countries, including the People’s Republic of China (PRC), do not share these values and seek to leverage digital technologies and Americans’ data in ways that present unacceptable national security risks while advancing authoritarian controls and interests.”

This is a clear example of talking tough and acting soft, not unlike when Biden postured as an opponent of Vladamir Putin, but then rolled over and peeled back the restrictions on a fuel pipeline, all because those restrictions were placed by President Trump. It defies logic that the man supposed owned by The Kremlin was the hardliner, and the man today celebrated as a hawk is proving to be a canary in a pipeline.

This petty erasure of all things Trump has also been seen taking place in the State Department. Donald Trump’s overlooked record of brokering Middle East peace is a sticking point for the media and the Biden administration. After just a few months of being in office, a major battle between Israel and the Palestinians erupted, aided certainly in Biden’s sloth in connecting with Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu, all while working on new deals with the extremely hostile Iran. This not only stood in stark contrast to the years of tempered aggression in the region under Trump, but also the numerous landmark peace agreements struck, called the Abraham Accords.

These were significant deals made between Arab nations and Israel, normalizing relations, broadening economic opportunity, and building an acceptance of religious differences. Biden has exhibited a confounding approach to these peace deals. While a candidate he raved about the Accords, but since his administration has been rather hostile. Jen Psaki referenced the deals with some hostile criticism; “Aside from putting forward a peace proposal that was dead on arrival, we don’t think they did anything constructive, really, to bring an end to the longstanding conflict in the Middle East.”

The Washington Free Beacon reported that the State Department has issued a decree that the accords will be relabeled, simply to be referred to as the “normalization agreements” and that the name will be removed from all official documents and communications.

The Free Beacon reviewed two internal State Department emails detailing to employees that the agreements will no longer be referred to as the Abraham Accords but only as “normalization agreements.” No reason was given for the policy, the source said. The department also purged the term “Abraham Accords” from its talking points, documents, statements, and official communications, the source said, adding that senior department officials have been very “cagey” about explaining the policy decision and have sought to keep it quiet.

In a continuation of the lack of substantive reasons given by the administration for all of the erasure taking place in various sectors of the government, the official word given to the Free Beacon was less than revelatory. A State Department official, speaking only on background, said, “This administration is not focused on what these agreements are called but what they mean.”

As for all of the petty decisions and major policy alterations we have been witnessing, it is very clear Biden is focused on eradicating as much of Trump’s legacy as he can — with the results of these moves being less important.
