Radical Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has suddenly discovered that supporting open borders isn't all fun and games. While giving an impassioned plea on Wednesday, the Democrat begged President Joe Biden to send help to his already crime-ridden disaster of a city.

Saying that Chicago has "reached a critical point in this mission," Johnson pleaded with the Biden administration to stage a "significant intervention" as illegal immigrants continue to pour in.

Well, that's a shame. Anyway, what's for dinner? 

I'm trying to think of something I care less about than a Democrat mayor who supported sanctuary city policies getting his comeuppance. These are the same people who accused anyone who wanted to secure the border of violating human rights and hating the poor, but now that the problem has vividly arrived in their backyards, they suddenly want to call it a crisis and change course.

I've got some news for Johnson. This has been a crisis for years, and he had ample opportunity to speak out in support of the border cities that were being overwhelmed and the Border Patrol agents that were reaching their breaking points. Instead, the mayor, who ran his campaign on taking Chicago even further left, chose the path of cynical virtue signaling to score cheap political points. Not once did he suggest stricter enforcement or reform that would help stop the abuse of the asylum system.

In other words, the chickens are coming home to roost, and Johnson and those who voted for him deserve every bit of what they are getting. Let's be honest, the mayor didn't appoint himself to office. Chicago residents were presented with a choice between Johnson and another far less radical Democrat back in 2022. They chose to double down on the path former Mayor Lori Lightfoot had blazed, electing the most insane left-winger on the ballot. Elections have consequences, and now people in Chicago are getting them good and hard. 

It doesn't have to be this way. Voters could change course and start electing politicians who aren't promising to bring ruin to their cities. Until that happens, the pain will continue, and it should continue. No one who has supported open border policies should be able to escape the ramifications of that. Rather, they should be made to feel them the most.
