Joe Biden gave a presser on Friday in which he attempted to take credit for the hostage deal between Israel and Hamas. As per usual with the American president, he really, really shouldn't have.

In a drop-dropping state of confusion, Biden claimed that Hamas originally attacked Israel on October 7th because he was building a railroad. No, I'm not kidding.
Biden says "the reason Hamas struck when they did" was because Biden wanted to "build a railroad from Riyadh all the way through the Middle East, into Saudi Arabia, Israel, etc., and all the way up to Europe" pic.twitter.com/fSvulriQ2k

Of all the reasons that Hamas massacred 1,400 people in Israel and took over 200 hostages, Biden building a railroad from Riyadh through the Middle East and "all the way up to Europe" is not one of them. When you watch the clip, the president also tries to take credit for the Abraham Accords, saying that Hamas feared he was about to make peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
That's ludicrous. The Abraham Accords were an achievement of the Trump administration. If anything, the Biden administration has tried to blow up the peace deal by empowering Iran in the region. For the president to try to take credit for something he opposed and clearly wanted to sabotage is gaslighting of the highest order.
In the end, Hamas attacked for the reason it always attacks: It wants to destroy Israel and set up an Islamic state that spans "from the river to the sea." In the process, it wants to kill as many Jews as possible, and it will continue to attack until it is either eliminated or meets its goal. Hamas itself has stated that. Was peace with the Saudis a pressure point for the terrorist government? Perhaps, but again, that was Trump's doing, not Biden's.
When asked specifically about the Americans being held hostage, the president had no answers whatsoever.
"When will the first American hostages be released?"

This is how you know the Biden administration really had nothing to do with this deal. If the American government was actually exerting influence, we would have seen some Americans released as part of this hostage release. It's also astonishing that we still have no information on the condition of those who are still being held.
How has the White House not put pressure on Qatar to get that information? Are we just going to let the Qataris continue to run the show even as they coddle and protect Hamas terrorist leaders within their own borders?
Biden's weakness continues to cost Americans and its allies. This is the time for a president to present strength, both physically and rhetorically. Instead, we have a guy who meanders up to the podium, sounding as if he just woke up from a three-day nap at the nursing home, ranting about nonsensical things. Is it any wonder Hamas appears to have the upper hand in negotiations?
