Caitlyn Jenner has made news recently by announcing a run for Governor of California. This comes as Gavin Newsom is facing a recall effort that threatens to toss him from office. Anger has built over California’s COVID response but also a variety of other issues, including the job-killing AB5 bill which essentially makes it illegal to be a sub-contractor.

When the topic of transgender athletes (i.e. biological boys competing against girls) came up, Jenner’s initial response was somewhat surprising. RedState covered Jenner’s answer at the time.

Now, that was obviously the common sense response. It simply is not fair to have boys setting a record in girls’ sports, while those that have worked so hard to get ahead are marginalized due to obvious biological advantages. To be clear, those advantages go far beyond testosterone levels as well. Simply taking hormone blockers doesn’t change the fact boys are typically bigger, faster, and stronger than girls of the same age.

But here’s why Jenner never should have been trusted. This is a person who is clearly seeking publicity and has no guiding ideals — outside of some platitudes about free markets. I mean, that should have been obvious to everyone, given we are dealing with a biological man who decided to change their name and physical appearance to that of a woman, after gaining fame as a men’s Olympic champion. Obviously, there are issues here.

Given that, it should surprise no one that Jenner has completely flip-flopped, per The Daily Wire.

Yet during an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday, Jenner shifted positions once again, saying “of course” biological boys should be able to compete in girls’ sports if they began transitioning when they were “very young.”

Jenner suggested creating a “commission” to assess individual cases of trans athletes wanting to compete in sports.

“What I would do as governor, I would put together a commission,” Jenner said. “Trans women compete in the Olympics, they compete in the NCAA, but when it gets down to the high school level, there’s no guide rules, there’s no rules and regulations how they can.

“And trans women, who are truly trans, who at a very young age, you know, started proper medical treatment, they’ve grown up as girls, of course they should be able to compete in girls’ sports,” Jenner said. “But yes, some guy who hasn’t done any therapy, hasn’t done anything, there has to be a review board.

Of note is that Jenner is attempting to draw a distinction where one does not actually exist. What makes someone “truly trans?” Taking pills from an early age does not negate all the physical advantages that biological boys hold over biological girls. That’s the scientific fact, even if the transgender lobby now wants to dishonestly zero-in on only testosterone being a factor. Further, who’s going to be on that commission? It’s California, after all, so the assumption would be that any commission would be filled with left-wing ideologues, correct?

I don’t think I’m being unreasonable in my assumptions here. You either stand up for the right of young girls to be able to play sports in a fair environment or you don’t. Jenner doesn’t, and that’s clear.

This is why “owning the libs” is not enough to support Jenner. Yeah, it might be funny for a while that the first transgender person to hold a major elected office would be a Republican, but Twitter owns only take you so far. There need to actually be policies and principles undergirding every candidacy, especially one to be the governor of a state. My advice: let Jenner twist in the wind. This is not a bandwagon to jump on.
