In a stunning turn of events from just a year ago, Michael Flynn had the charges of lying to the FBI against him dropped today. RedState covered the initial announcement as the news broke, and I hit President Trump’s reaction shortly afterward. He wasn’t happy, to put it lightly.
Now that Flynn’s nightmare is over and the FBI officials who politically targeted him have been exposed, a lot of hot takes are suddenly appearing to have not aged well. The receipts are coming due and perhaps some apologies are in order.
Here are some examples.

Let’s also not forget how the press handled those who suspected the FBI had acted corruptly in their prosecution of Flynn. For years, we were told it was all a conspiracy theory. That only hardcore Trump supporters could believe such lunacy. Who’s the crazy one now?
Hey @adamgoldmanNYT remember when you called @SidneyPowell1's motion an exercise in "recycling unfounded conspiratorial accusations" and a "last-ditch bid to delay @GenFlynn's sentencing?"
Because I do
Are you going to retract this nonsense after today's hearing? pic.twitter.com/khCNoLDiq0

You owe Michael Flynn an apology. https://t.co/3TbRVaavB2

Someone who incessantly lectures about morals and integrity and truth and decency surely will repent for this https://t.co/R8osE6JdbE

Countless other articles were written deriding Flynn, insisting he had betrayed his country and speculating that he had colluded with the Russians. Until the release showing the FBI’s set-up last week, it was still conventional wisdom that Flynn was a crook who had certainly lied to the FBI and deserved what he got.
Now, we know it was all nonsense. A politically motivated plan was laid, Flynn never showed any intent to lie, the agents interviewing him didn’t think he lied, and then he was coerced into a guilty plea via threats to his son by the Mueller team.
Of course, some don’t know when to take the loss, chief among them Susan Hennessey, who’s been at the forefront of pushing Fusion GPS propaganda for years.
This moment represents the full collapse of an apolitical Justice Department. An astonishing assault on the rule of law and in a functional DOJ it would prompt mass resignation. https://t.co/SBa8Ubl5NN

Railroaded into pleading guilty and admitting that he committed multiple federal crimes. https://t.co/wIZcjyTAc2

Yes, exactly Susan. He was indeed railroaded into pleading guilty to crimes he likely didn’t even commit, or at the very least were so inconsequential that they never should have been pursued. Remember, the FBI originally deemed the Flynn case as non-viable because it was so ridiculous.
Frankly, I’m sick of hearing the stupid idea that anyone who pleads guilty must have actually done what they are accused of. One of the most abused parts of our justice system is the plea system, where prosecutors can give a person the choice of having their life turned into a living hell or pleading to a lesser punishment. Plenty of people have chosen the latter as the lesser of two evils. People like Hennessey and French know that, yet they continue to play dumb on that point.
The FBI acted corruptly and the chickens have come home to roost. The charges being dropped against Flynn are hardly enough, but it’s a start. In the meantime, a lot of people owe Flynn and those who accurately reported on the situation an apology.
