After Pushing for Impeachment, Democrats Now Claim Trump Is Laying an "Impeachment Trap"

Does this make sense to anyone?

Democrats have not been shy about calling for impeachment. It’s been a steady drumbeat for over two years now. Some Congressional Democrats have been calling for it from the moment Trump took office. It’s never mattered that there’s no real case for impeachment. They were expecting Mueller’s report to finally give them the ammunition and it turned out to be a dud.

The media, of course, played along with this as well, hosting panelist after panelist talking to liberal host after liberal host opining and suggesting impeachment. None of this has been a secret.

Yet, all the sudden we are getting a new shift in the argument.

CNN has a new article out entitled: “Many Democrats Fear Trump Is Laying an Impeachment Trap”

It seems a crazy idea that any president would actually want to be impeached.

But Donald Trump has so subverted Washington logic with his wild, norm-crushing presidency that there is now a serious conversation — at least among Democrats — about whether he views the ultimate constitutional crisis as a weapon in his re-election campaign.
So let me get this straight. Democrats, who haven’t shut up about impeachment for two years, are now blaming the President for trying to orchestrate his own impeachment? Makes sense.
The level of 5D Chess Trump is apparently playing according to Democrats is a sight to behold.
The possibility is shaping the strategies of Democratic leaders as they weigh the political risks of impeachment and their duty to defend principles of American governance.

Many Democrats fear that Trump may be laying an impeachment trap that could consume the House majority, distract them from key issues like health care and alienate persuadable voters.

I’ll note that this CNN article is not labeled as an op-ed. In fact, it’s labeled as hard news “analysis.” Notice the characterization of Democrats as just trying to defend the principles of American governance. No bias there.

The idea that Trump is setting up his own impeachment is asinine. While there might be political aspects that benefit him if it happens, the risks far exceed those.

Adam Schiff is quoted as well.

“Part of our reluctance is we are already a bitterly divided country and an impeachment process will divide us further,” Schiff said Sunday on “This Week” on ABC News. “He certainly seems to be trying and maybe this is his perverse way of dividing us more … He thinks that’s to his political advantage, but it’s certainly not to the country’s advantage.”

Yes, because accusing the President of being a Russian agent for two years wasn’t divisive at all. Continuing to lie that you had evidence of such wasn’t divisive either. Wait, what? No one actually believes this sudden faux concern for unity is genuine.

In actuality, Democrats have had their bluff called and they are scared to push their chips into the middle of the table. They want the political fodder of impeaching Trump while not actually impeaching him. Pelosi keeps flailing around about how Trump should be impeached but she won’t pull the trigger.

Now, faced with their own cowardice, Democrats want to try to spin it around and pretend that it’s actually Donald Trump who’s interested in impeachment. Come on.

What’s even dumber is to see CNN actually accept the idea as legitimate. It’s not surprising, but dumb nonetheless.

Democrats should just put their money where their mouth is. Enough of the silly, partisan investigations. Enough bloating on the networks. Man up and impeach Trump if that’s what they want to do, but they don’t get to pretend that they haven’t been pushing for it his entire Presidency.
