Yesterday, I wrote a piece on Marco Rubio criticizing Ilhan Omar’s nonsensical take on Venezuela, namely that she thinks the U.S. is responsible for the economic collapse (narrator: it’s not) and that Venezuelans are better off without regime change (narrator: they aren’t).

Here’s a refresher on what she said.

“This particular bullying and the use of sanctions to eventually intervene and make regime change really does not help the people of countries like Venezuela, and it certainly does not help and is not in the interest of the United States,” Omar said on the progressive television program.

Rubio slammed her as unintelligent and embarrassing.

I’ll give you one guess what Omar’s response was.

Ok, time’s up.

Women of color have heard this before. Instead of "we disagree," it's "she doesn't know what she's talking about." They have to make us feel small.

You see, it’s not that Pence and Rubio are rightly calling out how wrong she was in her Maduro supporting rant about sanctions, it’s that everyone criticizing her is RACIST! (in my best Tucker Carlson voice).

The “women of color” canard is the favorite deflection by Omar, AOC, and Tlaib. Anytime anyone points out how ill-informed they are, they throw it out there. Accusing someone of racism in our society has taken the place of rational debate.

What’s perhaps sadder than Omar’s response are those pretending it’s clever and factual. If you scroll through the responses to her tweet above, you’ll see hundreds of people insisting that a 4 month House member with no expertise in anything is the one who actually knows what she’s talking about. Never mind that she’s factually wrong, she checks the inter-sectional and political boxes and must be defended at all costs.

I sure hope the saying that Twitter isn’t real life holds true in this instance because if it doesn’t and these people vote, we are in trouble. There was a time when both sides of the political aisle would largely agree that a socialist dictator like Maduro should be opposed, even if just diplomatically. Unfortunately, we no longer live in that time.
