AOC Says Netanyahu's Election Is the "Ascent of Authoritarianism"

Words have meaning and apparently Democrats are no longer required to abide by them.

AOC went on the Skullduggery Podcast, hosted by Yahoo’s Michael Isikoff, who’ll you may remember as being one of the first to peddle the Steele dossier (without revealing the course at the time). On it, she’s asked about the recent elections in Israel and had this to say.

“Prime Minister Netanyahu was just apparently reelected in Israel right after saying he intended to annex the Jewish settlements on the West Bank. Do you believe this should affect U.S. policy to the state of Israel?” co-host Michael Isikoff asked.

“I think so,” Ocasio-Cortez responded.

“How so?” Isikoff pressed.

“I think these are part of conversations we are having in our caucus, but I think what we’re really seeing is the ascent of authoritarianism across the world,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I think that Netanyahu is a Trump-like figure, and I think that we—there are so many ways to approach this issue. Betty McCollum even has a proposal that she’s advanced asking the us not to fund child detention, Israeli child detention of Palestinian children. There’s different ways to signal it. I would hope and wish that a diplomatic approach could impact policy. It doesn’t all have to be legislative. but I think if we just sit on our hands—”

“Would you be in favor of reducing military or economic aid to Israel?” co-host Daniel Klaidman asked.

“I mean, I think it’s on the table. I think it’s certainly on the table, and I think it’s something that can be discussed,” she said.

Pretty much everything in there is wrong and shows a profound lack of knowledge on AOC’s part (or gross bias, you pick).

Netanyahu is going to remain Prime Minister because his party won a sizable amount of seats, more than the largest opposition party (which is not even “left-wing” by most standards), and was able to form a coalition within the Israeli government that constitutes a majority. In what way is that part of the “ascent of authoritarianism?” Free people choosing their representatives in a free election is the opposite of such.

This is part of a larger issue we see across left-wing politics, including in the United States. Any election that doesn’t go their way is blamed on anything and everything except their own ability to provide voters with an actual reason to vote for them. While AOC compares Netanyahu to Trump, neither is anything close to an authoritarian. Trump, for example, has abided by every single court ruling that’s come down against him, including those that are clearly partisan and lack any real legal grounding. Barack Obama outright ignored a ruling over DACA and no one batted an eye. Democrats are currently suggesting stacking the Supreme Court and getting rid of the electoral college just because they lost an election. Why is that not called out as authoritarian?

What that adds up to is “authoritarian” being substituted for “politician I don’t like.” It’s how you get a mundane conservative like Ted Cruz being called a fascist and run out of a restaurant while AOC, Ilhan Omar, etc. won’t even call Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela a dictator. Words have no real meaning anymore to these people. They are just a means to an end to destroy their political enemies.

AOC goes on to accuse Israel of detaining “Palestinian children.” This is nonsense and the repeating of dangerous propaganda. The only children Israel detains are those that try to kill people. Even then, they are treated far better than they would be in the Palestinian territories, where they literally shoot their own children to create hoaxes against Israel.

By propagating such ridiculousness, AOC invites more violence against Israel. If she wants to make a financial case against aid to Israel, go ahead, but the fact that she does so based on false framing of the situation on the ground shows her profound bias and vapidness. Has she called for cutting aid anywhere else? Why does she oppose cutting ineffective aid to the corrupt governments of Central America but wants to cut it for the only democracy in the middle east, who just happens to be a strong ally?

It’s important to note what you don’t hear from AOC in her answers. It was reported just a few weeks ago that Hamas was shooting it’s own citizens in the street of the Gaza Strip. Not once has AOC, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, or any other Democrat for that matter come out and condemned their actions. Instead they continue to only train their fire on Israel. The constant singling out of the Jewish state, while ignoring actual bad actors in the world, reveals the underlying anti-Semitism of their views. There’s no other logical explanation for being so one-tracked and biased.

What you see in this interview is a profoundly dumb world-view being spoken of by someone who’s knowledge of geopolitics never went past what some far left professor in college taught her. She can’t even articulate her point past buzzwords and generalizations, instead falling back on asserting she’s just “advancing the conversation.” In a saner world she would have no platform and we could talk about her less. Unfortunately, that’s not what’s happening, as AOC and her fresh faced colleagues are essentially running the Democratic party now. That means it becomes more important than ever to call out what they are doing.
