It’s Time for the GOP to “Nut Up or Shut Up” About California’s Voting Shenanigans

Perhaps you have heard about the voting chaos in California?

California had its jungle election primary on June 2. In addition to the top of the ticket races for governor and mayor of Los Angeles, there were also the elections for Congress under the new gerrymandered lines pushed through by Gov. Gavin Newsom to win up to five new seats for the Democrats in the House of Representatives. Even as I write, new votes in these races are being “found”, often dramatically changing the likely results. Strangely, in some cases, the candidates benefiting the most from these newly found votes are the third-place Democrat candidates – see Tom Steyer and Nithya Raman – who can bounce the Republican candidates from the runoff (which is statistically impossible, of course).

Weird how that works, isn’t it?

But not really. The California system is designed to “assist” the Democrat Party, and everybody knows this, even movie actors like James Woods (no offense, James, I loved you in literally everything you have ever done!). The Democrats, who have had full control over the state government since 2011, have, according to the U.S. Attorney, created an “election system (that) has serious structural vulnerabilities. Universal vote-by-mail with no voter ID requirements creates conditions where fraud can go undetected and unpunished, eroding public confidence.”

This is an “insane system where after election day when votes are still being counted & campaigns know exactly how many votes they need to win they can go out & mine through rejected ballots to try & strategically try & get voters to fix the procedural problems with them & have the votes counted.” Unlike in other states, like Florida, California refuses to publish the final number of all ballots when the polls close, which would close off the avenue for cheating. They also make sure that “voter rolls aren’t regularly cleaned as the law demands (LA County previously was forced to admit this) - everyone on the messy voter rolls still get a MAIL IN ballot - it’s illegal to ask for an ID with a ballot.” Signatures are not required to match for mail-in-ballots. Drop boxes with mail-in-ballots are left unsecured. There is an “honor system” for voter registration. The Democrats have been caught paying homeless people to register to vote. They also allow people to register to vote at the craziest of residencies – including actual toilets

Shipwreckedcrew of Redstate has put together a helpful explanation on X/Twitter of how the Democrats will work on the Los Angeles mayor’s race:

There will be "dumps" of "harvested votes" from all over LA County coming in over the next couple days. These were collected by Dem. Party operatives and delivered Tuesday. Because they were only collecting ballots from registered Dems, they will be 90%+ for Bass or Ramen, and almost zero for Pratt. That will happen over the next 2-3 days. THEN we'll find out there are tens of thousands of mail-in ballots set aside by election officials because of some defect. Those voters will be contacted and told they have 22 days to "cure" their ballot problem. When cured, thousands of more votes will be added to the totals. Since the Dems have a much higher percentage of mail-in ballots, most of the ballots that need to be "cured" will be votes for Baas or Ramen -- not Pratt.

The Democrat deceit is so open and obvious that even Gov. Newsom has boasted of a break glass’ emergency plan to block a Republican governor from being elected to succeed him.

Presumably, Newsom’s plan will apply to other political offices, as well. Such as the Congressional races. Currently, some of these races are looking pretty good for the GOP.

It is important to remember that in the Congressional races, the GOP doesn’t have to just accept the “final results” that are claimed by California officials. Article I, Section 5 of the US Constitution provides that, "Each House shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members, and a majority of each shall constitute a quorum to do business..." In “the modern era, this provision comes into play when there is a challenge to the state-declared winner of an election to the Senate or House. Losing candidates dissatisfied with state recount procedures may petition the relevant chamber of Congress to decide the outcome. These high-stakes determinations are immune from judicial review.”

Both chambers of Congress have interjected themselves into very partisanly charged races in the modern era:

  • In 1974, during the height of the Watergate Scandal, the Democrat Senate majority refused to accept New Hampshire’s final certification of a Republican winner in an open Senate race. But because of Republican filibustering, the Democrats were unable to seat the Democrat candidate, and the Senate was forced to declare the seat vacant. In the 1975 special election, the Democrat then won the seat.
  • In 1984, the Democrat House majority chose to reject Indiana’s certification that a Republican had ousted the freshman Democrat Congressman in the Indiana Eighth District. That Democrat incumbent was seated, and he solidified himself in his office, holding on through successive elections until the landslide of 1994.

Will the GOP be willing to follow the precedent of what the Democrat majorities have done in the recent past to address the faults of the California elections that are coming to light now?

Well, that’s the question. I am not a betting man, but if I were, I wouldn’t take that bet. They didn’t in 2024, when the Democrats won an additional two House seats in California in the after-hours by utilizing their insane election system, resulting in the GOP House majority dropping seats during the same election that Donald Trump won his second term and the Republicans won solid control over the Senate.

Since we are talking California – the land of Hollywood – perhaps we should say that it is time for the GOP to “nut up or shut up” regarding California electoral shenanigans?
