Former Special Counsel Jack Smith Claims in Laugh-Out-Loud Interview He Would Never Politicize Justice

Associated Press

We reported earlier in October about the bombshell revelations that Former Special Counsel Jack Smith and his “Arctic Frost” team were allegedly tracking the phone calls of numerous GOP senators during his almost two-year crusade against Donald Trump. His cases regarding classified documents and supposed election interference were besieged by problems and shelved following Trump’s winning back the presidency in November 2024.

Now the former—some would say “disgraced”—prosecutor is clapping back at the many, many allegations that he played a key role in weaponizing then-President Biden’s DOJ. He characterized the claims as ridiculous during an interview earlier this month in London at University College.

I’ll tell you what’s ridiculous, Mr. Smith: that you would make these denials just a little over a week after you were outed for spying on Republicans.

The interviewer he chose to spill the beans to is particularly telling: former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, himself a notorious “pitbull” for Robert Mueller’s team as they spent $32 million hounding Trump for 22 months over non-existent Russia Collusion.

Yet Smith told Weissmann that he is way above such petty things as weaponizing his powers against political foes. “The idea that politics played a role in who worked on that case, or who got chosen, is ludicrous,” he said.

As Joe Biden would say, “C’mon, man.”

His whining continued:

“Those people I brought in were all former longtime, former federal prosecutors who had worked in both Republican and Democratic administrations over and over again,” he said. “These are team players who don’t want to do anything but good in the world. They’re not interested in politics.

“I get very concerned when I see how easy it is to demonize these people for political ends when these are the very sort of people I think we should be celebrating,” he added. “The idea that politics would play a role in big cases like this, it’s absolutely ludicrous and it’s totally contrary to my experience as a prosecutor.”

Journalist Julie Kelly thinks differently, as our sister site Twitchy reported:

Smith continued the gaslighting, but you get the idea: he, like former FBI Director James Comey, considers himself to be of too pure a heart to do anything but pursue justice with complete neutrality. “Process shouldn’t be a political issue,” he said. Now that, Jack, is ludicrous, given all the receipts collected against you. “If there’s rules in the department about how to bring a case, follow those rules, you can’t say, ‘I want this outcome, let me throw the rules out’.”

And yet that’s exactly what Smith himself did, along with former Attorney General Merrick Garland, Weissmann, and much of the rest of Biden’s poisonous DOJ. Appear with an actual interviewer who's willing to ask real questions, and you might have some credibility, but you won’t, so you don’t.
