'Chris Van Who?' Dems' Infighting Explodes As Schumer, Jeffries Hold Off on Endorsing Socialist Mamdani

Oh, to be a Democrat right now. Your party is failing, your vision is stale, and your supporters are more and more extreme by the hour.

And now you’ve got an outright socialist in Zohran Mamdani leading the pack in the race for NYC mayor. What do you do if you’re a Dem? Why, bury your head in the sand, of course, and pretend it isn’t happening.

That’s what House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer are doing, anyway. Rather than take a stand one way or the other, both New Yorkers continue to issue limp statements and wait to see which way the wind blows.

Sen. Chris “Margarita” Van Hollen (D-MD) is incensed that his leaders won’t go commie enough for his tastes, so he’s lashing out:

"Many Democratic members of the Senate and the House representing New York have stayed on the sidelines," Van Hollen said during an event in Iowa on Saturday. "That kind of spineless politics is what people are sick of. They need to get behind him and get behind him now."

Neither Schumer nor Jeffries, both natives of Brooklyn, have endorsed Mamdani, despite having met with him a handful of times in recent weeks amid growing pressure from congressional Democrats to throw their weight behind him.

Van Hollen also went after the Democratic Party as a whole, arguing, "We’ve become a party that too often trims its sails."

"Too cautious, too rudderless," he said. "Too attached to poll-washed, pundit-rinsed, and donor-dried messages. What comes out of the wash is all bleached and blow-dried."

Jeffries fired back in a statement – Chris Van Who?

"Leader Hakeem Jeffries will have more to say about the general election well in advance of Nov. 4," said Jeffries spokesperson Justin Chermol. "Meanwhile, confused New Yorkers are asking themselves the question: Chris Van Who?"

I love it. Fight, Dems—eat each other up.

I agree with Sen. Van Who that Schumer and Jeffries are spineless—but for different reasons than those he posits. I would argue that they’re lacking in courage for not speaking out on Mamdani’s socialist, extremist policies that defy the foundations America was built on. If the two lackluster “leaders” would take a stance on that, I’d have a little more respect for them.

But they won’t, and I don’t.

Meanwhile, Empire State Gov. Kathy Hochul showed her true colors Sunday—red, and more red—and issued a New York Times op-ed throwing her support behind the democratic socialist who wants the government to run grocery stores, hates the police, and refuses to condemn the phrase, “globalize the intifada.”

He’s your candidate, Democrats. Enjoy your dive to the bottom, and keep brawling all the way down.

Editor’s Note: Zohran Mamdani is an avowed Democratic Socialist and has a real chance to become the next mayor of New York City.
