They Want Us to Live in Fear

As my colleague Brad Slager wrote Thursday, “they demand our silence.”

We saw it during the Biden administration when they sicced the immense power of the federal government on those who dared to express their opinions. It was only when those opinions didn’t fit the “preferred narrative,” however.

They got Big Tech to literally cancel the words and thoughts of prominent Americans who strayed from the leftist orthodoxy.

Lifelong friends and family suffered schisms that in many cases will never be mended. Conservatives living in a culture of fear felt that they could be next to be thrown down the memory hole and/or forced to hire endless lawyers looking to make a quick buck and ruin them.

Many conservative writers are familiar with threats; I won’t go into them because they’re too disgusting and awful and make you wonder how such loathsome creatures could be roaming among us.

They do it with little things, like Office Depot drones refusing to print a poster for Charlie Kirk’s vigil; they do it with bigger things like “debanking” entire companies and kneecapping their businesses. Speeches by conservatives are routinely cancelled over “safety concerns”—allowing the heckler’s veto to rule the day.

As Slager wrote, they demand our silence—and one of the ways they’re increasingly doing it is with violence and fear. They want you to be scared, they want you to be fearful of speaking your mind—and in all too many cases, they're remarkably effective. College students report in huge numbers that they censor themselves in fear of the woke academia mob, and they’re too frightened to say what they really feel.

Many decent people stood silent while a totalitarian COVID regime took over America—they knew if they said, “the king has no clothes,” they could be ostracized by the community, fired from their jobs, and hounded by vicious government operatives in places like California.

New Information About Charlie Kirk's Assassin Doesn't Fit the Left's Narrative

I remember going to a Turning Point USA convention in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2022. It was my first big political conference, and as I walked up to the venue, I thought to myself, oh yeah—Arizona. Charlie Kirk. The crazies come out for this here. I was hyper aware of my surroundings, scanning to make sure that there wasn’t a jacked-up nutcase in the crowd. I have been to numerous conferences since, and every time, when you’re outside the building, you know that you are exposed and that somewhere out there, somebody would be happy to get you.

Now don’t call those who feel the tension “cowardly” or “weak”; they are not—they are experiencing “situational awareness” and are keenly aware of the real danger out there. The real danger of people like Thomas Matthew Crooks or Charlie Kirk’s evil assassin, Tyler Robinson.

As you can see with all the disgusting reaction frothing out of leftist media pundits and Democrat politicians, many are not troubled at all by the senseless killing of a young American—in fact, they’re celebrating it. A disconcerting number of soulless ghouls were openly heckling conservatives, saying the shooter was “MAGA,” but now that new information is showing that is anything but the case, they’re suddenly saying, “What does his ideology matter, cretin?!

The fear is real, the threat is real—and that’s the way they like it. That doesn’t mean, however, that they’re going to win, because they won’t. Their shameful legacy is crumbling by the hour, with DEI now DOA, a majority of Americans realizing that having biological males beat up on females is indecent, and that letting in tens of millions of illegal aliens when we don’t even know who they are is not only immoral, but it’s a grave national security threat.

They want us to live in fear for two reasons: 1) To shut us up, and 2) To punish us for existing in the first place.

We must not bow down to these tyrants.

In a moment of intense pain and mourning, one person came out and said it best—Charlie Kirk’s widow and mother of his two children, Erika, who spoke Friday night in one of the most eloquent and moving speeches you will ever see. “We will never surrender,” she vowed. “You have no idea what you have just unleashed,” she added.

The tweet continues:

“So I want to tell you that we’ll never surrender. We never will ever, ever.”

“Our campus tour this fall will continue.”

“There will be even more tours in the years to come.”

“America Fest here in Phoenix this December will go on.”

“It will be greater than ever.”

“The radio and podcast show that he was so proud of, will go on.”

“And in a world filled with chaos, doubt, and uncertainty, my husband’s voice will remain and it will ring out louder and more clearly than ever.”

Erika is right. We won’t back down, and we won’t stay silent. RIP, Charlie Kirk.
