Multiple reports indicate that Donald Trump will soon announce that he is moving the U.S. Space Command headquarters from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Huntsville, Alabama. This may or may not be the main subject of the president’s 2 p.m. ET scheduled announcement from the Oval Office.
🚨 BREAKING: President Trump will be announcing he’s REVERSING a Biden-era decision to put the U.S. Space Command in Colorado — will be moving it to the great state of ALABAMA instead

GOOD!
This’ll allow them to better integrate with NASA in Huntsville
No brainer! 🚀 pic.twitter.com/EV9yUJlQ8J
The decision would undo yet another one of Biden’s former plans:
The decision would reverse a move made under former President Joe Biden's administration, which had selected Colorado Springs as the permanent home for the military's newest combatant command in 2023.
Space Command currently operates from Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs on an interim basis.
About 1,700 personnel work at Space Command, according to congressional records.
Trump has often linked federal funding decisions and politics. The president previously blocked a move to put the FBI's headquarters in Maryland, calling it a "liberal state," and suggested linking disaster aid in California to the state's policy decisions.

What does Space Command do, and why are politicians vying for it to be located within their states? Jobs and prestige:
Space Command’s functions include conducting operations like enabling satellite-based navigation and troop communication and providing warning of missile launches.
Alabama and Colorado have long battled to claim Space Command because it has significant implications for the local economy. The site also has been a political prize, with elected officials from both Alabama and Colorado asserting their state is the better location.
Will there be more announcements at Trump’s Oval Office appearance? We’ll just have to wait and see.

But this is very likely only be *PART* of today’s announcement, like last time, when he made multiple large, unrelated announcements at once. pic.twitter.com/0ijtdkInVE
The "Heart of Dixie" has a lot of qualities working in its favor:
Huntsville, Alabama, nicknamed Rocket City, has long been home to the Army’s Redstone Arsenal and NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. The Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command is also located in Huntsville, which drew its nickname because of its role in building the first rockets for the U.S. space program.
The announcement caps a four-year back-and-forth on the location of Space Command.
The Air Force in 2021 identified Army Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville as the preferred location for the new U.S. Space Command. The city was picked after site visits to six states that compared factors such as infrastructure capacity, community support and costs to the Defense Department.
Congratulations, Alabama. RedState will bring you further updates from the president’s announcement later Tuesday.
