Many people are sick of hearing about Jeffrey Epstein, the late sicko financier pedophile, but his ghost has roiled Washington, DC, in recent weeks. Attorney General Pam Bondi’s announcement that there was no “victim list” and that Epstein died by suicide left many lawmakers unsatisfied as they had expected more details of what really went on.
Now the saga has come to the House of Representatives, where Democrats want to hold a vote to force the DOJ to release the Epstein investigation files. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) wants to let the administration continue their work unfettered by such distractions for the time being, and he’s saying it’s time to go home:
Speaker Mike Johnson said he would shut the House down early for its summer recess to head off Democratic demands for votes on calling for the release of files from the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier and sex offender... In order to avoid what he called “political games,” Mr. Johnson said the House would adjourn until September after votes scheduled for Wednesday night. The announcement came just after the House Oversight Committee voted to subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime partner of Mr. Epstein, for a deposition.
With floor paralyzed over the Epstein case, House GOP leaders have canceled Thursday vote. Last vote before August recess is tomorrow.m afternoon.

President Donald Trump has tried to distance himself from the controversy and has called the drama a Democrat-created "hoax." On Tuesday, taking questions from reporters at the White House, he said he was fine with the DOJ meeting with Epstein’s convicted accomplice, socialite Ghislaine Maxwell:
I don’t know anything about it. I think that it… sounds appropriate to do.
I didn’t know they were going to do it. I don’t really follow it too much. It’s sort of a witch hunt.

He continued, saying that the focus should really be on the latest revelations by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who found that former President Obama along with his top intelligence chiefs conspired in 2016 to take down a sitting president – Trump – with a false Russiagate scandal:
“They caught President Obama absolutely cold,” Trump said, referring to the director of national intelligence’s report last week on the 2016 election...
“Obama’s been caught directly,″ Trump said. “He’s guilty. This was treason.”

Like a bad virus, Epstein just will not go away, and the story continues to suck up oxygen. Over five years after his death, he’s still, unfortunately, in the headlines.
