Self-described democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani delivered a shock win Tuesday night as he defeated disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and all comers for the Dem primary election for mayor of New York City. That such a zealot could get this far stunned even many leftists.
As we’ve reported, he’s way, way out there and as extreme as they come, dreaming of a socialist utopia where the government freezes rents and runs the grocery stores. Oh, and he’s just fine with the phrase, “Globalize the intifada!”
He’s fiercely anti-Trump and anti-ICE, and he wants to get rid of public transit fares, offer free municipal housing and childcare, raise the tax rates on corporations and residents worth over $1 million, and increase the minimum wage to $30 an hour. Sure, all this would cost hundreds of billions of dollars, but that's but a trivial concern for him.
Even in deep-blue New York, it’s jaw-dropping that a man with his resume has risen politically so quickly and could soon hold the top job in the Big Apple.
Donald Trump took notice, and he blasted the novice politician on Truth Social Wednesday. Democrats have "crossed the line," he charged:

He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!

As I wrote Tuesday night in a VIP article, Mamdani’s win reiterates that there’s still a battle going on in this country:
Although conservatives are sitting in the wining circle at the moment, the fight for the soul of America is far from over. This election result proves that the Marxists have not been defeated and are just waiting for their comeback. We must use every tool at our disposal to fight them.

Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who is running as an independent and could still defeat Mamdani in the November general election, had exactly zero good things to say about his challenger. He told "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday:

He wants to raise taxes on the one percent of New Yorkers, high-income earners. As the mayor, you don't have the authority to do that. You know who has the authority do that? An assemblyman, which he is.

Mamdani has no idea how things work. Eric Adams points this out:

Trump is anything but subtle, but he’s right on the money on this one. Mamdani would be an absolute disaster for New York City, and a stark warning to the rest of the country. Let’s hope voters wake up before it’s too late.
