Trump Unloads on Biden's EV Policies as Auto Strike Looms, Mandates Will 'Murder' U.S. Car Industry

Former President Donald Trump blasted President Joe Biden and his radical electric vehicle policies Thursday, saying they will “murder” the nation’s auto manufacturers.

Joe Biden’s electric vehicle mandate will murder the U.S. auto industry and kill countless union autoworker jobs forever, especially in Michigan and the Midwest. There is no such thing as a "fair transition" to the destruction of these workers’ livelihoods and the obliteration of this cherished American industry.

Although Biden said on Labor Day that he was "not worried about a strike until it happens," United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain suggested Thursday that maybe he should be:

"One thing we’ve said from the outset is things are not going to be as they always have been," he said. "The companies in past negotiations always have a tendency to drag things out until the very end, and then they want to drop a bunch of stuff and just scramble.

And I’ve told them from from Day One that we don’t intend to do things that way.”

As RedState's Becca Lower reported last month, the UAV feels that Biden should be putting his hand on the scale in their favor:

Team Trump had more to say in their tweet:

The only acceptable policy for UAW members should be the complete and total repeal of Biden’s catastrophic EV mandate. President Trump looks forward to doing exactly that on his first day back in the Oval Office. Union leadership must decide whether they will stand with Biden and other far-left political cronies in Washington, or whether they will stand with front-line autoworkers and President Trump.

He also posted a blistering five-minute plus video earlier in the week:

What is happening to our auto workers is an absolute disgrace and an outrage beyond belief. Auto workers are getting totally ripped off by Crooked Joe Biden and also their horrendous leadership. Because these people are allowing our country to do these electric vehicles that very few people want and it's a mandate. So you'll ultimately be forced to drive in a car that goes for an hour, and then you have to have it recharged. I hope you don't want to go very far away.

Indeed, many consumers are not interested in buying an electric car, and their reasons include: “range anxiety; time required to charge; power outage and grid concerns; lack of servicers for repairs and maintenance; and inadequate performance in extreme temperatures.”

RedState's Ward Clark has an interesting question:

Should We Ban Electric Vehicles?

The prospects for a strike looked worrisome as of Thursday:

The union leader [United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain] stressed that it plans to bargain with all three Detroit automakers — General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and Stellantis — until contracts for about 150,000 auto workers expire on Sept. 14. The union hopes to have an agreement by then, Fain said, but warned that "there will be action" if an agreement isn’t reached in that time frame.

“So you know, the way things are going right now, it’s looking that way,” he said, referring to a potential strike. “So hopefully, you know, things can change."
