Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen made an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s left-wing comedy show Wednesday night to discuss her all-important work in improving her penmanship, while also letting it be known that inflation was caused by Americans “splurging” on goods and technology during the pandemic.
Yes, inflation is your fault.
She made no mention of the budget-busting, inflationary Inflation Reduction Act, nor the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan. It’s all because smelly Walmart shoppers wanted to buy a new grill:
…it turned out the pandemic had very special impacts on the economy. Remember everybody stopped spending on services.
They were in their homes for a year or more. They wanted to buy grills and office furniture. They were working from home. They suddenly started splurging on goods, buying technology.
We [were] suddenly working through technology. And bottlenecks started developing where supply in particular important sectors of the economy just couldn’t keep up with demand.
Watch:
Don't blame the Biden Admin printing trillions of dollars: @SecYellen tells @StephenAtHome the real reason inflation is out of control is because Americans are "splurging" on goods; "and, remember, Russia has conducted a brutal war against Ukraine" pic.twitter.com/d0xbhA7sbH

She then went on to parrot her boss, President Biden, in claiming that inflation was also Russia’s fault for starting the war in Ukraine and sending gas prices skyrocketing. Yellen and Biden have blamed seemingly everybody but themselves for the inflation rate, which in October reached a 40-year high. Her Colbert appearance marks a new low though, as it marks the first time they’ve pinned the fault at the feet of locked-up Americans wanting new grills. (Remember that we were told the only way to interact with family and friends was outdoors; thus, the desire for a grill makes sense.)
This is the same woman who assured us that inflation was “transitory” and didn’t pose a big risk:

Yellen and Colbert then discussed her signature, which will appear on currency, and how she’d been working hard to improve it:
[Former Treasury Secretary [Jack ] Lew, he signed it with something that looked like eight circles that were connected.
So, I knew this was something you could really screw up, and I wanted to get it right, and I practiced and I practiced.
Funny ha ha! So precious. I went to the grocery store last night, and let me tell you, I wasn’t laughing when I saw the price of chicken. To me, politicians diminish their offices when they go on late-night “comedy” shows, especially these days when most of them have turned into little more than propaganda arms of the DNC. The Washington Times reports:
“The late-night comedy scene has been reliably liberal for a long time, but the 2022 midterm election was a regular messaging machine for the Democrats,” broadcast analyst Alex Christy wrote.
[A] study revealed that during the fall political campaign — a period stretching from Labor Day through the Monday night before Election Day — liberal guests outnumbered conservative guests 47 to 0 on the late night shows.
The study presumably didn’t include Fox host Greg Gutfeld, whose Gutfeld! show is killing it in the ratings, or Tucker Carlson, who has more laugh lines in his nightly monologues than all the network funnymen put together.
Biden and Yellen have become masters in blaming others for their failures. For Christmas, I’d like to buy them mirrors.
