FBI and White House Looking Into Who Is Impersonating WH Chief of Staff Susie Wiles

With every Democrat, leftist, and international bad actor actively seeking to undermine President Donald Trump and his administration, cybersecurity in and around the White House, and among Trump's staff and cabinet is a top priority. On Thursday, reports surfaced of an unknown individual impersonating White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. The impostor has been contacting well-known Republicans and business leaders, identifying themself as Wiles. For the past few weeks, various senators, governors, business executives, and others have gotten text messages and phone calls from someone claiming to be Wiles.

The messages and calls were not from Wiles, and now the FBI and the White House have stepped in to investigate who the individual or group might be and what their intent is. So far, all that FBI and White House officials have said is that they do not believe any foreign nations are behind the messages. FBI Director Kash Patel stated:

“The FBI takes all threats against the president, his staff, and our cybersecurity with the utmost seriousness. Safeguarding our administration officials’ ability to securely communicate to accomplish the president’s mission is a top priority.”

Wiles had shared with associates that her phone had been hacked, which gave the impersonator the private cell phone numbers of some of the nation's most prominent people. But the creepiest part was that the phone in question was not a government phone; it was Wiles' personal phone. Some recipients of the messages said that the voice did sound like Wiles, but investigators think that the impersonator may have been using artificial intelligence to imitate her voice.

Whoever is behind the impersonation is, at first, pretty believable to recipients of the messages. One lawmaker said they were asked to come up with a list of people who could be pardoned by Trump. Eyebrows began to be raised when the impostor began asking questions about Trump that Wiles would most certainly know the answers to. Another person was asked for a cash transfer.

A few other giveaways that the caller was not Wiles were broken grammar, and the messages sounded formal and not Wiles' normal way of speaking. Others who were familiar with Wiles' phone number said the calls were not coming from that number. Members of Congress have been informed of the bogus calls impersonating Wiles. Another disturbing aspect of the messages is that several people spoke with the impostor before realizing it wasn't Wiles.

Cybersecurity has been a topic in the Trump White House. Earlier this month, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, stepped down after Waltz took responsibility for adding Atlantic magazine Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg to a Signal app chat where sensitive military operations were being discussed. But the hack of Wiles' phone may not be the first time it has been attempted. During the 2024 presidential campaign, the FBI investigated attempts by Iranian operatives to hack both the Trump and Biden campaigns before Biden dropped out of the race.

But as tensions rise between China and the U.S. over trade and tariffs, and more scrutiny is on Iran regarding its nuclear ambitions, others in and around the White House inner circle could very well be susceptible to more cyber attacks. No doubt it is something the White House will be taking a hard look at.
