Many of the events taking place on Inauguration Day have been solemn in nature, which is appropriate to the importance of the ceremonies involved with it. RedState has extensively covered the over 200 executive orders and actions, many of which President Donald Trump promised during the 2024 presidential campaign to sign on Day One.
But during one point in the newly sworn-in president's signing ceremony in the Oval Office on Monday afternoon, there was a somewhat lighthearted moment in an interaction with the gathered members of the media.

It happened when the afternoon press room nemesis of former Biden administration Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, Fox News White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, threw out a question about a longstanding, cherished tradition of the peaceful transfer of power in the U.S.
He asked him whether former President Joe Biden had left him a letter.
The back-and-forth between them was entertaining to watch.
Doocy asked, "President Trump, did President Biden leave you a letter?" Without looking up from the document he was signing, Trump began: "He may have."
Then, after he closed the folder for the executive order, he told the reporter to wait a second, gesturing with his index finger; he moved to slightly push back from the Resolute Desk. He asked, "Don't they leave it in the desk?"
That's when Trump pulled open the drawer, and exclaimed, "Ooh!" The media asked him what he'd found. Before reaching into the drawer, he said, "Thank you, Peter. It could have been years" before he found the presidential letter.
Doocy asked whether he would tell them what the envelope read. But Trump, being Trump, decided to tease the media with the idea that he would open and read the letter--right there in front of them. A millisecond of suspense passed, then Pres. Trump thought better of it.
He said, "Maybe I'll read it first, then I'll make that determination," then thanked Doocy again, saying he might not have seen it "for months." The journalist replied that he's happy to help with the passing of the torch.
Finally, as Trump began to put the letter away, he recalled that he "left [Biden] a letter in a desk just like this" when he left office in 2021.
