A new poll of swing states earlier in the week showed former President Donald Trump trouncing potential 2024 Democrat opponent, President Joe Biden in a head-to-head contest, as my colleague Nick Arama reported:
....[T]he new numbers from Race to the White House, which looks at the current polling, show big movement since July, and Trump truly trouncing Biden in the swing states. I've written before about Trump moving ahead in most of the swing states in another poll. But Race to the White House which Biden had a slim lead in all the states in July, now has Trump up in five of the six states, in Georgia by as much as 5.7.
As you can see in the chart she referenced (below), the state of Michigan is D+1.6 and️ R+1.3.

Arama also shared a CNN/SSRS poll from Monday showing a theoretical general election match-up going to Trump in the Great Lakes state as well. Trump earned 50 percent, and Biden had 40 percent. Now, the latest polling to gauge likely voter support in the Michigan Republican presidential primary is out--and the former president leads the pack by a whopping 50 points:
The latest Monmouth University Poll-Washington Post survey, published Thursday, shows 63 percent of likely Republican voters in Michigan said they would vote for Trump in the state’s primary.[...]
Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis tied for second place in the poll, each earning 13 percent of support from likely Republican voters in the state. Among non-MAGA supporters, 36 percent still said they would vote for the former president, followed by 24 percent who would vote for Haley and 18 percent who would back DeSantis.
The report continues:
Likely Republican voters in Michigan also appeared to be the most enthusiastic for Trump compared to the other candidates.
About 3 in 4 voters said they would be “enthusiastic” or “satisfied” if the former president clinched the nomination. Around 60 percent said they would feel the same about DeSantis, and half of the respondents said the same about Haley, according to the survey.[...]
Just 5 percent of respondents in the new poll said they would vote for former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and another 3 percent said they would vote for biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
The Monmouth University Poll-Washington Post polling was drawn from responses by 606 potential Republican primary voters in Michigan from Dec. 7-11; the margin of error is 4.4 percentage points.
