ABC News:

A jury has found Lori Vallow Daybell guilty of killing two of her children in what prosecutors argued was a doomsday plot.

She was also found guilty of conspiring to kill her children and her husband’s first wife, Tamara Daybell.

Lori Vallow Daybell and her husband, Chad Daybell, were both charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the 2019 deaths of her children, Joshua “J.J.” Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 16, whose remains were found on an Idaho property belonging to Chad Daybell following a monthslong search.

The jury deliberated for approximately four hours on Thursday and two hours on Friday before reaching its verdict, which was read before a packed Boise courtroom and also livestreamed by the court.

The case was an unusual one, considering what prosecutors say was the couple’s motive for the slayings of the children, J.J. and Tylee:

The verdict followed a six-week trial during which prosecutors argued that the couple thought the children were zombies and murdered them.

According to one prosecution witness during the trial, Vallow Daybell’s niece’s husband, she also thought law enforcement officials were “dark spirits or zombies.”

Hubby Chad Daybell’s trial is still to come, but here was the prosecution’s statement after Vallow Daybell’s charges was read:

“We want to assure each of you that we remain committed to pursuing justice for Tylee Ryan, J.J. Vallow and Tammy Daybell,” Madison County Prosecuting Attorney Rob Wood and Fremont County Prosecuting Attorney Lindsey Blake said in a joint statement. “We also want to express sincere appreciation to the many members of law enforcement and the community who tirelessly worked together to hold Lori Vallow Daybell accountable.”

Vallow Daybell still faces felony charges in Maricopa County, Arizona, the Arizona Republic reported on Saturday, for allegedly attempting to kill her ex-husband and shooting one of her other relatives, when she lived in the Phoenix area in 2019:

After an Idaho jury found Lori Vallow Daybell guilty on Friday of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, yet another murder conspiracy case in Maricopa County remains in limbo. […]

Locally, Vallow Daybell faces another charge of conspiracy to commit murder in the death of her ex-husband, Charles Vallow, which is pending.

In an email to The Arizona Republic, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said it has reviewed Vallow Daybell’s charges, which stemmed from Charles Vallow’s death in Chandler and a shooting of one of Vallow Daybell’s relatives, Brandon Boudreaux, in Gilbert.

The County Attorney’s Office intends to prosecute Vallow Daybell after she is sentenced in Idaho.

The documents in the case give a little bit of the background on the Daybells’ insane “zombie” defense:

Charles Vallow had filed for divorce in February 2019. In the divorce paperwork, he wrote that Vallow Daybell had a “God-complex” and believed she would bring about the end of days. Later, a friend of Vallow Daybell would say that she believed her kids were zombies, a term she picked up from Chad Daybell to describe anyone controlled by evil.

We’ll keep you posted, once the Idaho court hands down Vallow Daybell’s sentence and the Arizona case moves forward.
