"The Truth": What Biden Didn't Say in His Prime Time Address

On Thursday night, Joe Biden addressed the American people in prime time for the first time during the 50 days he’s been in the White House, as my colleague Bonchie wrote earlier,
(see: “A Barely Alive Joe Biden Levies Threats, Appears Clueless in Primetime Speech”) And some of the RedState front page contributors chatted in a live blog during the speech.

But it’s what he didn’t say that is even more crucial for Americans to hear.

Almost in passing, Biden mentioned that he and Kamala Harris, and their respective spouses, along with members of his cabinet, will soon be out on the road across the country, The implication of his words is that he’ll be explaining the “benefits” of the massive, one-party bill he signed into law Thursday, that Democrats in Congress rammed down the American people’s throats.

But there’s much, much more. Here’s how CNN describes it… right in the subheadline is the dirty little secret:

Biden plans media and travel blitz to sell relief plan — and make the benefits permanent

After signing a massive but temporary expansion of the social safety net into law this week, President Joe Biden will set about convincing Americans that its benefits — which amount to a dramatic reshaping of the country’s economy — must be made permanent.

They aren’t planning on dropping this “permanent” deal until…the delayed State of the Union address to Congress, which might happen in April: (emphasis mine)

And likely next month, he will speak to a joint session of Congress to lay out his next steps, which the White House says are still being developed but will likely include a push on infrastructure, climate and making permanent the provisions that ease burdens on families.

Oh, and Joe didn’t bother to mention this next, little detail in the address tonight, did he?

That is likely to require tax increases, making its passage a tougher sell but solidifying its larger effect on American society.

Here’s the deal: Democrats are planning to immediately, while they have control of Washington basically, cement the progressive agenda advanced in the so-called COVID relief bill and blow up the economy.

Scary stuff.

So scary that even the people who normally would boost a Democrat White House’s agenda are speaking out about how damaging this move would be for the U.S. economy.

Newsbusters quoted a Washington Post economics columnist (whom it describes as on his way out the door) ripping the Dems for their “utopian borrow and spend fantasies”:

Outgoing Washington Post economic columnist Steven Pearlstein spent his last column ripping apart the utopian borrow and spend fantasies of Democrats and the liberal media.

As they reported, he wrote, in part:

“Welcome, fellow Americans, to the era of the free lunch.” As Pearlstein told it, “To hear it from liberal economists, progressive activists and Democratic politicians, there is no longer any limit to how much money government can borrow and spend and print.”

And continued:

[W]hat we have been treated to instead are mindless talking points (‘Go Big’) politically inspired lines in the sand ($1.9 trillion in stimulus, a $15-an-hour minimum wage, $1,400 rebates) and transparently partisan proposals to reward the Democratic base, buy off White working-class voters and avenge the partisan outrages of the Trump era.

(I encourage you to read the full column.)

It’s not just about forwarding the ultra-leftist agenda, though. In the CNN article, the cynical, political calculations are laid bare: (emphasis mine)

….Because of the narrow scope required to pass the bill through a budget process, many of its benefits expire — like increased subsidies for health insurance and an expansion of the child tax credit — after a year. Making them permanent will require another act of Congress that would likely need some Republicans on board.

Biden and his advisers have wagered Americans will welcome the expanded benefits and punish Republicans who work to block them from becoming permanent next year, just as the 2022 midterm elections loom.

But, like during the election season, you’re not going to hear the details from Joe, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, or anyone else leading the oh-so-silent revolution.

Here’s Biden’s full speech (via CSPAN), and decide for yourself what to make of his words, in which he assured Americans numerous times that his administration is committed to telling you “the truth.”

Here’s the truth, readers. Biden’s minders and the left-wing of the Democrat party trotted him out tonight to repeat that phrase, over and over, for only one reason: they think you can’t handle the truth of their real agenda.

Just like in this classic courtroom exchange from 1992’s “A Few Good Men,” between J.A.G. Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee and Colonel Jessup (played by Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson, respectively):

Col. Jessup: I’ll answer the question. You want answers?

Lt. Kaffee: I think I’m entitled.

Col. Jessup: You want answers?

Lt. Kaffee: I want the truth.

Col. Jessup: You can’t handle the truth!
