DC Mayor Bowser, Staffers Flout Her Own COVID Rules, Attend Fancy Biden 'Do in Delaware

Just when you think the Left has hit bottom on their “do as I say, not as I do” routine, there’s always something worse. Case in point: Democrats flocked to the Biden “victory” speech in Delaware last Saturday, and included in that throng was Democrat Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, whom readers may remember before the election blasting President Donald Trump and his administration for any number of things, but she may want to look in a mirror when it comes to finding problems in our country that need fixing.

Including setting a good example on following her own rules for COVID.

Washington, D.C., mayor Muriel Bowser (D.) is not quarantining after attending Joe Biden’s victory speech in Wilmington, Del., saying it was “essential travel.”

The mayor, who has implemented some of the most restrictive coronavirus rules in the country, issued new travel rules on Monday but also said she won’t be quarantining after traveling to celebrate Biden’s win, Fox 5 D.C. reports. With Delaware on Bowser’s list of 45 “high-risk” states, Washingtonians are required to quarantine for 14 days upon returning from Delaware on “nonessential” travel, yet she exempted herself because she met with Biden campaign officials in her “official capacity” as mayor.

Bowser is also exempt from mandatory testing, and it is not clear when she and the staff on the trip will be tested, though her office said she is tested regularly. Still, she urged D.C. residents to closely follow all guidelines in her “Coronavirus Situational Update” news conference Monday.

But the Free Beacon noted later in the piece that Bowser has written in a loophole in the rules—making it a cinch to flout what elites like her see as “rules for thee, but not for me”:

When asked, Bowser’s communications director Latoya Foster told the Washington Free Beacon, “On Saturday, Mayor Bowser attended the remarks of the President-elect and the Vice President-elect and met with a few people on their team. She went on Saturday evening and returned the same evening for this essential travel.”

But this isn’t the first time Bowser has decided the rules don’t apply to her, as my colleague Nick Arama shared in August a Daily Wire report on the late Rep. John Lewis’ funeral in the Capitol… which a Bowser spokesperson claimed all attendees — including Bowser and members of Congress — were exempt from quarantine protocols, citing “the ceremony as an essential government activity, telling Just the News on Friday, ‘Government activity is essential, and the Capitol of the United States is exempt from the Mayor’s Order.'”

Nick also rightly reminded us of the quote from George Orwell’s novel 1984, paraphrasing it as “Some people are more equal than others.” Even in the seat of our nation’s government, it appears.
