Deployed Dad Surprises Cheerleader Daughter From Middle East

When nine year-old Mikayla Lange’s cheerleading team was headed off to a national competition, they were sent off with a big good luck party. The team dads got in on the fun by learning a hilarious cheer routine to perform for the girls, a bittersweet moment for Lange whose own dad, Sgt. First Class Robert Lange, is stationed in the middle east.

It turns out the surprises weren’t over, though. Cheer instructor Ashley Bailey called Lange to the front of the room for a special video surprise from her father. He was wearing a t-shirt to match the other cheer dads who could be there for the big night and said “Hey, Mikayla! I’m sorry I can’t be there with you, but I can’t wait to get home and see you!”

Then, to Mikayla’s surprise, her dad, along with other service members, performed the same cheer routine. “At first, I was bawling my eyes out and then … I looked up at the screen and my dad was doing cartwheels,” she told ABC News of feeling “amazing” seeing her dad on screen. “It probably took him a month to learn [it.]”

As for the National Guard, they think that Lange’s “soldering is better than his cartwheeling,” but were glad to see him support his daughter.

Isn’t this the best?
