It’s Lesbian+Gay+Bisexual+Transgender+Queer/Questioning+Plus Pride Month, and lots of organizations are taking part.
One colorful example: America’s National Park Service (NPS).
Along with the U.S. Department of the Interior (of which it is part), the service observed Pride Month Tuesday by posting photos to social media.
Captured: rainbows over riveting landscapes.
Via Instagram, NPS issued a statement:
The National Park Service preserves a variety of places commemorating America’s multi-faceted history and is devoted to preserving, protecting, and telling the stories of ALL Americans. Discover stories that tell the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community to the nation’s history in parks across the country.
The Department of the Interior tweeted similarly:
At Interior, we are devoted to preserving, protecting, and telling the stories of ALL Americans. We acknowledge the continuing efforts of all those who fight for equality, promote tolerance and acceptance, and embrace diversity. Happy LGBTQ+ #PrideMonth!
This year, Pride Month appears to have gotten an upgrade.
The heralding of sexuality is being loudly trumpeted across sectors of society.
As I covered in April, U.S. Embassies can now fly the Pride flag on the same pole as the Stars and Stripes.
And this Saturday, the San Francisco Giants will wear Pride uniforms rather than their regular garb.

Even kids shows are getting down with the cause.
A few months ago, preschooler program Blues Clues taught tykes, “The letter ‘P’ is full of Pride.”
And just last week, Blues Clues released a drag queen-hosted singalong that takes place at a Pride parade.
A few of the lyrics:
This family has two mommies
They love each other so proudly
And they all go marching in
The Big ParadeThis family has two daddies
They love each other so proudly
And they all go marching in
The Big ParadeTrans members of this family
All love each other so proudly
And they all go marching in
The Big ParadeAce, Bi and Pan grown-ups you see
Can love each other so proudly
And they all go marching in
The Big Parade
As noted by The Daily Wire, the Park Service was queer when it wasn’t cool.
Way back in 2014, the Department of the Interior announced an LGBTQ history initiative.
At the time, NPS Director Jonathan Jarvis had this to say:
“The National Park Service has a responsibility to protect, preserve and tell the stories of some of our nation’s most iconic places, and as part of that responsibility, it is our job to be sure that Americans never forget where we’ve been, where we are, and what we aspire to be as a nation. I am excited to see how the outcomes of the LGBT Heritage Initiative and theme study will allow us to share a more inclusive version of our uniquely American experience.”
As for the photos online, how do ya know you’ve really acquired the rainbow for your own?
When an American institution that’s virtually the keeper of the rainbows posts them online in your honor:
