To hear the media — and social media administrations, and Facebook memes, and #Resistors, and many prominent Democrats — tell it, Donald Trump singlehandedly killed America.

His weapon of choice: the coronavirus.

But left-wing Bill Maher thinks it’s baloney, and he said as much in Friday’s installment of Real Time.

As reported by The Daily Wire, amid an electoral discussion on the HBO talkfest, Biden speechwriter and advisor Jon Meacham went the route of rapping on Trump’s atrocity:

“It’s easy — because it seems so incompetent — to make fun of it. But this is an administration whose fundamental incompetence has led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and the most significant weakening of institutions that, however flawed, have produced, by and large, a more perfect union.”

Of course, disease and death are no joke. But the way many have made it out, COVID-19 is an orange, red-hatted germ with blonde feathery hair roamin’ ’round, ready to infect all it encounters (but only after 9:59:59 p.m., if curfew-conscious Gavin Newsom is correct in his apparent position that the virus takes a siesta between the hours of 10 and 5).

Jon also ridiculed Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and his recent claims of 2020 voter fraud:

“It’s easy to be amused by Rudy, but we’re just lucky that our authoritarians are so incompetent.”

But Bill wasn’t having the one-sided arrow-shooting: The comedian pointed out there’s always plenty of mistakes to go around — though he’s still no devotee of The Donald:

“Everybody’s incompetent, it wasn’t just Trump that led to those deaths. He certainly did his part, but we’re an incompetent country. And an unhealthy one.”

Maher also addressed MSNBC journalist Alex Wagner, who asserted the Right had ignored the virus for “completely partisan reasons.”

Trump and the GOP, Alex offered, should be blamed for their “inaction.”

According to Nancy, it was an admirable effort to bring darkness to light:

Around the same time, the President was called xenophobic for actions against the ailment.

Nevertheless, Alex sees it thusly:

“We have a battle right now against an unseen enemy, and one side has no interest in fighting it for completely partisan reasons. I mean, that is a cravenness – the inability, the inaction, the dismissal of COVID-19 as a deadly virus tells you the ends to which the Republican Party and Donald Trump will go to preserve partisan worldview.”

Bill’s not on board. And while he may still be quick to lay on the shoulders of the President things not rightfully his, the host injected some righteous reason with the following:

“[T]here’s blame to go around everywhere, there’s blindness on some parts everywhere.”

It’s an interesting shift in the American discussion — Bill Maher is absolutely part of the Left; yet, increasingly, despite any party-related designation (as is also the case with Adam Carolla), common sense seems more and more to rule the day.

But we’re probably not likely to hear the end of “Blame it all on Trump” any time soon:
