How’d you spend your time during the impeachment hearing?
Democratic Louisiana Rep. Cedric Richmond spent his watching golf.
Not an odd idea, except that he was a participant in the session.
Video of the House Judiciary Committee’s assembly Thursday night caught the congressman with his eyes glued to a laptop.
And on the screen? The President’s Cup golf tournament.
GOP Rapid Response Director Steve Guest tweeted a clip from CNN, and it seems clear that the lawmaker’s just watching TV while the circus carries on.
How much reverence does this show toward a process to take down the President? On the other hand, though, the entire political spectacle’s been rife with goofiness, so I can understand his boredom.
Sports was a nice choice, given that he didn’t need to hear it to follow along. Just chill and enjoy the match.
No word on whether he had a cooler full of Pabst beneath the desk.
I hope we see more of this, and that next time he’s subtitling Diff’rent Strokes.
Check out Ced below, in the light grey suit, just above the “P” in “impeachment.”
Steve thought it was “P” for pitiful:
“What on earth is Democrat Rep. Cedric Richmond watching on his laptop during this impeachment markup? To me, it looks like Rep. Richmond is watching the President’s Cup golf tournament. Richmond’s actions are a DISGRACE.”
Zoomed in.
Yep.

Professional golfer Bob Estes is cutting Cedric some slack:
Even though he’s a Democrat, I’m gonna give Rep. Richmond a pass on this one. 🏌️♂️#PresidentsCup https://t.co/a9g8LmLpn5

There does seem to be a bit of a contradiction — Mr. Richmond’s on record hailing the abject seriousness of leveling charges against the President in order to protect the nation.
In fact, he compared Republican legislators to Judas:
“Today I’m reminded of Judas because Judas for 30 pieces of silver betrayed Jesus. For 30 positive tweets for easy re-election, the other side is willing to betray the American people their precious right to vote and the future of our great country.”

And he trumpeted a responsibility of solemnity over it all:
“Our oath to the Constitution requires us to take this drastic, solemn, and regrettable step, but it is necessary because if we don’t protect America’s precious right to vote, it is clear that the other side won’t.”
Democrats on Nadler's Committee are so "solemn" and "prayerful" about impeachment that they're watching golf at the hearing.
This partisan sham has been an absolute waste of the American people's time. https://t.co/QnztFaNlWs

Rep. Cedric Richmond believes everyone in the room should treat the impeachment hearings with focus, seriousness, and reverence.
Oh, well. I guess easier Ced than done.
