Florida's Legislature Eyes Bible Classes and Prayer in Every Public High School, and the Bill's Sponsor is Even More Shocking

And now for something completely different…

In Florida, legislators have introduced a bill requiring all public high schools to offer elective Bible classes covering the Old and New Testaments.

Furthermore, prayer would once again be permitted.

The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Kim Daniels, is the author of several faith-based books, including Prayers That Can Bring Change and Break the Power of Familiar Spirits.

House Bill 341 “requires each school district to offer specified courses relating to religion, Hebrew Scriptures, and Bible to certain students as elective courses.”

Additionally, it would allow a “brief meditation period” at every school in the state.

While the notion of kids praying and learning about the Apostle Paul in school may be surprising, perhaps even more double-take-inducing is the fact that Kim is a Democrat.

Eaze into it…there ya go.

And this isn’t her first effort at bringing some church to school: In March, she submitted a similar proposal requiring public high schools to offer Bible classes as electives. The stated purpose was to teach the Good Book, not as religion, but for its historical and cultural significance and role in the founding of American government.

That one was approved in an 11-3 vote. According to Orlando’s Fox 35 — some critics warned of lawsuits, whereas others said the courses should include Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism.

Kim is also the founder of Spoken Word Ministries, Kimberly Daniels Ministries International, and Word Bible College.

Last year, she successfully got the state motto — “In God We Trust” — displayed in every Florida public school.

If passed, the law will go into effect in 2020.
