Did former First Lady Michelle Obama get Roseanne fired from her rebooted eponymous sitcom?

The 66-year-old comedienne says Yes.

The show — which had been tearing it up in the ratings — got canned in May of 2018 after Roseanne posted a short tweet comparing former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett to Planet of the Apes.

Her claim that she hadn’t meant anything racist didn’t save her. ABC gave her the ax, though parent company Disney had no problem holding on to Keith Olbermann after his slew of maniacal tweets about the President of the United States (see those eyebrow-raising posts here).

Roseanne was out there like a piñata, and many online and in the press were swinging sticks like there was no tomorrow. At least MSNBC showed a little grace: Its panel blamed Sarah Palin and “evil” white Republicans (here).

There were also a few public figure softies — Jerry Seinfeld called the firing unnecessary (here), and Suzanne Somers lamented that “the anti-Trumps won” (here). Even Joy Behar defended the star (here).

But one person heavily down on the disparaging tweet heard ’round the world was Barack’s boo, Michelle; and now, Roseanne believes she’s the real reason the plug got pulled.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Roseanne explained the string-pulling, referencing (as suggested by Fox News) former ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey — who gave the order to cancel:

“[Obama] said, ‘This tweet is unforgivable.’ That’s what I was told and I tend to believe it, because the woman who fired me is now working with the Obamas at Netflix.”

That’s no small revelation.

Channing was hired by the streaming service in late 2018 to work on programs including those for the Obamas’ Higher Ground Productions.

The former Disney exec has claimed there were “multiple” reasons for the firing (here), but it seems that Ms. Barr is unconvinced.

And unhappy.

Last June, Roseanne agreed to a settlement, allowing ABC to use the characters she owned. At the time, she said she “agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved.”

But she doesn’t appreciate her character’s immediate death — by way of opioid overdose — and the matriarch’s continued legacy in spinoff The Conners:

“They think because they killed me it’s okay to use me, use the memory of me. Still mention me.”

She also warned others in similar positions to watch their back:

“It’s still my show, but they stole it. They are going to do it to other comics. I’m just the first.”

She’s the first; but is she the first, because of the erstwhile First Lady? Could be.

Whatever the case, I believe the former Mrs. Conner: She claims she didn’t even know Valerie Jarrett was black. She thought she was Jewish — like Roseanne herself. And if you wonder why I take her at her word, I’m just trying to follow the New Rules: #BelieveAllWomen.

I believe you, Roseanne.

BONUS: As per a YouTube video posted Tuesday, Roseanne’s going to sue news outlets that continue to call her tweet “racist” (See the clip below; beware the LANGUAGE).
