Returning After Her Feud with David Hogg, This is How Laura Ingraham Performed in the Ratings

In this combination photo, Fox News personality Laura Ingraham speaks at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland on July 20, 2016, left, and David Hogg, a student survivor from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., speaks at a rally for common sense gun legislation in Livingston, N.J. on Feb. 25, 2018. Some big name advertisers are dropping Ingraham after she publicly criticized Hogg, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas school on social media. On Monday, Fox News program The Ingraham Angle resumed, as host Laura Ingraham returned to TV.

Just before her scheduled vacation, she’d been embroiled in controversy — courtesy of her response to the expressed indignation of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg.

As it turned out, he’d not been accepted to four universities.

On March 27th, Hogg told TMZ he’d been turned down by UCLA, University of California San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Irvine.

TMZ marveled over the academic asininity, saying Hogg was “doing important things.”

David explained he wasn’t surprised by the rejection, because there are “a lot of amazing people that don’t get into college.”

To be clear, Hogg’s applications — in order to have been decided upon before the end of March — would’ve certainly been submitted before the February 14th mass murder which catalyzed his appearance on the national stage.

Unimpressed by the teen’s collegiate complaint, Ingraham tweeted thusly:

“David Hogg Rejected By Four Colleges To Which He Applied and whines about it. (Dinged by UCLA with a 4.1 GPA…totally predictable given acceptance rates.)”

David didn’t appreciate the gesture; he called for a boycott of Ingraham’s show.

At least 16 advertisers pulled support — Red Lobster, Blue Apron, and SlimFast among them. Ace Hardware withdrew but returned Thursday, citing initial “incomplete” information.

Meanwhile, Ingraham’s supporters launched an #IStandWithLaura campaign to boycott advertisers who pulled up stakes.

Barely 24 hours after her castigation of Hogg, the host tweeted to a changed tune:

“Any student should be proud of a 4.2 GPA —incl. . On reflection, in the spirit of Holy Week, I apologize for any upset or hurt my tweet caused him or any of the brave victims of Parkland. For the record, I believe my show was the first to feature David immediately after that horrific shooting and even noted how “poised” he was given the tragedy. As always, he’s welcome to return to the show anytime for a productive discussion.”

As for the apology, it was rejected.

Ingraham left for her planned family vacation over the week of April 2nd, reuniting with the small screen on the 9th and continuing her charge for the network which supported her fully during Hogg’s attempted takedown.

So, back in the saddle, how’d she do in the ratings?

According to Mediaite, Ingraham garnered 2.9 million viewers last week, besting MSNBC’s Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell, which scored 2.6 million.

As for the adolescent who — per his own assessment — is “changing the world,” CNN reported his mom’s claim that he “hopes to register and educate new voters.”

Upon her return to the boob tube, Laura Ingraham addressed “the Left’s plot to silence conservatives,” noting:

“They drive out any dissenting voice…There is a contraction of free speech all around us.”

This week’s ratings suggest they aren’t succeeding.
