Watch John Kerry Suggest that Britain Could, Might (and Probably Should) Just Ignore the Brexit Vote

Secretary of State John Kerry think that the vote for Brexit could be ignore or overturned in “a number of ways” and seemed to think that would be a great idea.

The Guardian reports:

The US secretary of state has raised doubts about whether Brexit will ever happen, suggesting most leave campaigners do not truly believe in Britain’s divorce from the EU and do not know how to achieve it.

Claiming there were a number of ways in which Thursday’s vote could be “walked back”, John Kerry, who visited Downing Street on Monday, said David Cameron was loth to invoke article 50, the EU exit procedure.

He said the British prime minister felt powerless to “start negotiating a thing that he doesn’t believe in” and “has no idea how he would do it”.

On not knowing, he also says rather dismissively, “by the way, nor do most of the people who voted to do it.” The Guardian takes this to be a swipe at Boris Johnson, but as an American used to this from snob Kerry, I know exactly what he meant. “The rubes in the sticks don’t know what’s best for them, but I do.” It’s an utterly typical point of view for not just John Kerry but for Democrats in general.

Elections have consequences, John. The vote for Leave happened. Our election will happen in November. That’s how democracy works. Not that he cares.

By the way, Cameron said in his resignation just hours after the vote that he would not invoke Article 50, but would instead leave that to his replacement. This is not some new revelation that changes anything. That’s just John Kerry being manipulative. Or stupid. Take your pick.
