Yesterday afternoon I had the opportunity to sit down with retired Air Force Major General, and GOP primary candidate for Colorado’s 5th Congressional District, Bentley Rayburn. In an interview in Rayburn’s relatively modest home north of Colorado Springs, we spoke about his background, world view, and why he is running for Congress.

As we talked about his time growing up, graduation from the Air Force Academy, time as an F-16 instructor, or his promotion to Major General and his transition back to civilian life, Bentley Rayburn showed a depth of knowledge,  comfortability with the issues important to voters of Colorado’s 5th CD.

You can read more about Bentley Rayburn’s biography at his campaign website.

Bentley Rayburn, who has faced off against current Representative Doug Lamborn in multi-candidate primary races twice before, garnered 37% of the delegate votes at the 5th CD Assembly.  Despite Lamborn’s near decade long incumbency, and just two weeks to rally support, Rayburn took nearly 40% of the vote and forced a two way primary in June.
