The Daily Stormer is the neo-Nazi craphole from whence all manner of racist, sleazy, unredeemable scumbaggery on the internet spews.

While they rejoiced in the events of this weekend in Charlottesville, and all the more so in Trump’s refusal to disavow them by name, they also found time to demean a dead woman.

GoDaddy’s response was to give the Daily Stormer their walking papers, and it’s hard to feel bad about that, isn’t it?

In an email to TechCrunch, a GoDaddy spokesperson said “We have informed The Daily Stormer that they have 24 hours to move the domain to another provider, as they have violated our terms of service. If no action is taken after 24 hours, we will cancel the service. Given this latest article comes on the immediate heels of a violent act, we believe this type of article could incite additional violence, which violates our terms of service.”

GoDaddy only provides the domain for Daily Stormer and does not host the site, which calls itself “The World’s Most Genocidal Republican Website.” While GoDaddy’s action is laudable, it’s also important to note that activists, including the Southern Poverty Law Center, began calling on GoDaddy to stop providing Daily Stormer’s domain several months ago.

Indeed, The Daily Stormer and its filth have been around for a long time, spreading a particularly noxious view of humanity.

As for the “Republican website” business, I wouldn’t equate them with Republicans, nor do I know where that phrase came from. I’ve never heard it.

I do know that many Republican lawmakers have forcefully denounced Saturday’s events, along with the white nationalists and what they represent.

I also know that this is the very reason President Trump needs to be forceful in his repudiation of them and all they stand for.

The one time I braved it and wandered over to the website to see for myself was during the primaries. On the front page of the site was splashed a picture of then-candidate Trump and his family, with the words, “President Trump Will Usher in the Fourth Reich in America!”

All the more reason Trump needs to reject them publicly, firmly, and often. Whether he accepts them or not, they’ve attached themselves to him, and he needs to keep saying it, until they get the picture.

GoDaddy joins Airbnb and Twilio as tech companies taking action aimed at combatting hate speech in reaction to the Unite the Right rally. Airbnb deactivated the accounts of several users who were planning to attend the event, while cloud communications platform Twilio CEO Jeff Lawson said it will add “an explicit prohibition of hate speech” in the company’s acceptable use policy this week.

Good.

White nationalism and the neo-Nazis are a fringe group that needs to be squeezed further and further into the fringes, until there is no place left where they can stand and infect polite society.
