The woke virus has not been stamped out yet. Not in the United States, and certainly not in the United Kingdom, or much of anywhere else in Western Europe. This is a mind-rot that threatens the very existence of Western civilization, which, if left unchecked, may cause Western civilization to die, not with a bang, but with a petulant, whiny whisper.
The UK is farther down the road than we are here in the USA, and that makes them a valuable object lesson, as I have pointed out many times. And as we have also seen many times, the British socialist healthcare system, the National Health Service (NHS) is a hotbed of woke horse squeeze.
Now, though, at least one person, a nurse who worked in the NHS, is pushing back. Her name is Amy Gallagher, and her career was ruined by the NHS after she objected to the racist notions in the ironically-named "anti-racist" training she was subjected to. Now, in a column at the Daily Sceptic, Amy is telling her own story; here's how it started.
In 2020, I enrolled at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust to become a psychotherapist. Infamous now for its disbanded Gender Identity Development Service, the Tavistock was one of the first NHS trusts to declare itself an ‘anti-racist’ organisation. As part of my training, it pushed its policy seminar, “Whiteness: a problem for our time”, where, it claimed, “a key and urgent question then for those of us who are regarded as White is, how do we interrogate our whiteness?” I was told I needed to view all white people as racist as it was the Tavistock’s official ‘anti-racist’ stance. When I told my colleagues I subscribed to the ‘colour-blind’ approach to race – of not judging people by the colour of their skin – they retaliated with two years of bullying, harassment, disciplinary proceedings, victimisation and ultimately expulsion from the course. I was told that my beliefs were not in keeping with the trust’s “anti-racist thinking” and that by voicing my beliefs I had shown that I was unable to learn, had spoken inappropriately about race and was unfit to become a psychotherapist. Despite only ever expressing mainstream liberal views, to them I was a far-Right racist.
If this sounds familiar, it is because we have been subjected to similar "woke" nonsense, which by the way is actually racist, here. In fact, Amy Gallagher here expresses the rational viewpoint: Any policy or outlook that categorizes a person and assigns them certain necessary opinions and attitudes solely because of the melanin content of their skin is, by definition, racist, no matter which direction the color-arrow points. Amy pointed that out, she was correct in pointing it out, and she's still correct to stand by her assertion.
But the NHS destroyed her career over it. Now, Amy is taking the NHS to court over it. She writes:
I am now suing the Tavistock for discrimination, harassment and victimisation because of my race (white) and my Christian and colour-blind beliefs. I am seeking £540,000 in damages for injury to feelings, psychiatric damages, career loss and loss or earnings and my trial is set down for 20 days in November 2026 at the Royal Courts of Justice.
An employment tribunal judge has previously ruled that an employee’s ‘colour-blind’ beliefs and opposition to Critical Race Theory constitutes a protected philosophical belief under the Equality Act, as established in Corby vs ACAS. However, Corby did not win his claim at trial. Consequently, while ‘colour-blind’ belief is now legally protected, no one has won a discrimination case on this basis. I hope my case will be the first.
This is how we win this cultural fight. This is how we stamp out the woke virus. It won't be easy and it won't be fast. Amy Gallagher likely faces years of legal challenge and appeals before all this is decided, but from reading her words and hearing her speak, she seems very determined to see this through. Amy Gallagher is challenging one of the basic tenets of "woke" racism: That white people are somehow different, somehow innately biased against people with more melanin in their skin, just by the very nature of being people of pallor. They would have us self-flagellate over our Northern European ancestry, even though any rational, ethical person would agree that even if our ancestors may have acted badly, we are in no way accountable for their actions; only our own. We are responsible for our own actions, and in the case of Amy Gallagher, we see that the woke won't tolerate dissent or even discussion.
That's what is at stake here. That is the nature of Amy Gallagher's fight.
