One Move Just Upended the Minnesota Governor Race

The race to replace Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is on, and on Friday, the race lost a primary GOP candidate, Minnesota Representative Kristin Robbins (R-37A). Ms. Robbins states that the decision was the result of Democrat Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) entering the race. Robbins states that she sees no path to win.

Minnesota Republican lawmaker Kristin Robbins, chair of the House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee, announced on Friday that she is ending her gubernatorial campaign to replace embattled Gov. Tim Walz.

"It was not a tough decision to get into the race 10 months ago," Robbins exclusively told Fox News Digital. "We could not allow Tim Walz to have a third term in Minnesota. He's destroyed our state, and we had to stop him, and so, I think I made a great case for that, and because of all my work on the fraud committee he got out nine months ahead of schedule, which is great."

Robbins continued, "Once Senator Klobuchar became sort of the anointed candidate to replace him, I just think the establishment kind of circled the wagons and, you know, it became a challenging endeavor, and I'm a realist, and I am a numbers person, and when I look at the math, I don't see a path for me to win."

This makes the race harder for Republicans. Senator Klobuchar has a history of winning statewide elections. In 2024, in a year that saw President Trump swept into office, Senator Klobuchar defeated her Republican rival, Royce White, by 56.2 to 40.5. In her previous election, in 2018, she defeated challenger Jim Newberger by 60.3 to 36.2.

If she does indeed want the Governor's chair, she has a pretty good shot at it.

A Minnesota news site, WDIO, presents Kristin Robbins' entire announcement. She says, in part:

After much thought and prayer, I have decided to suspend my campaign for Governor of Minnesota.

It has become apparent that the establishment political class, media, and donors have anointed Amy Klobuchar, despite her refusal to engage meaningfully on the issues that matter most to Minnesotans.

Our state government and political system are broken, and after fighting for Minnesotans from the inside for the past eight years, I have determined that the best way for me to fight for the future of our state is from the outside. I believe more than ever that it’s going to take a grassroots coalition of common-sense Minnesotans to save our state. And that starts with our families, faith and communities, not government.

This is, however, far from a done deal. The Minnesota primary isn't until August, and there are several Republican candidates still in the race — including Mike Lindell, of "My Pillow" fame. Mr. Lindell certainly has the name recognition, especially in the GOP, where he may well pull ahead in the primary. It's still quite an uphill climb, however.

The silver lining? Either way, Tim Walz will no longer be the Governor of Minnesota. That's an unmitigated good thing.
