Trump Admin Reportedly to Mostly Pass on UN Climate Summit

The 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP30, will start in Brazil in just a few weeks. Nations from around the world will be sending representatives; it's sure to be an impressive gathering of upper-tier government dignitaries, along with the usual crowd of Hollywood virtue-signalers, "green" energy promoters, and panic-mongers.

On the other hand, the Trump administration won't be sending any "high-level" representatives, according to a statement given to The Hill by an unnamed White House staffer. Given the Trump administration's dismissal of the fear-mongering over anthropogenic climate change, this comes as no surprise.

The U.S. won’t be sending any “high level” representatives to this year’s United Nations climate summit, a White House official told The Hill Friday.

The summit, known as COP30, will be held in Brazil next month. Traditionally at such meetings, nations discuss their plans for climate action, unveil climate-related initiatives and seek to negotiate global climate agreements.

The official noted that President Trump is working directly on international energy issues with leaders, including in recent trade deals.

Energy, as in reliable, high-density, affordable energy. The current administration, unlike the previous one, is working on American energy independence.

The climate will take care of itself.

The administration’s move not to participate in the summit is not necessarily a surprise. Trump and many of his Cabinet officials have sought to downplay the impacts of climate change and roll back regulations, including the 2009 determination that climate change poses a threat to public health

Trump also started the process of withdrawing the U.S. from the global Paris agreement. Under this deal, nations agreed to try to limit global warming to 1.5 or 2 degrees Celsius (2.7 to 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) as part of an effort to avoid some of the worst climate impacts.

This week, Trump announced that South Korea has agreed to purchase “vast quantities” of U.S. oil and gas and said his administration is also eyeing an energy deal with China.

The 2009 "determination" mentioned above is the purest corral litter; humans have lived through thousands of years of a climate warmer than today's, and almost all of that time, the humans extant at the time had no way of dealing with hot weather other than going for a swim or finding a shade tree. Almost all of that time, they had no way of dealing with cold weather other than wrapping themselves in animal furs. Things are a lot better now.

As for the attempts to limit global warming to 2.7 to 3.6 degrees (Fahrenheit, not commie Celsius), any people seeking to limit our planet with humanity's puny efforts is bound to be in for a disappointment.

Mind you, it's not at all a bad thing that the administration will be sending some people to keep an eye on these proceedings, even if they aren't top-tier brass. It's in the president's interests to know what the UN and the various hangers-on are going to want to try next to keep our planet's non-existent thermostat nailed down below that random 2.7 degree mark, because whatever they propose, it will be bad for the nations involved - and some of those nations may be on the short list for people looking for gas and oil from the energy-exporting United States.
