Since the founding of the republic, the nation's population has grown every year. There have been dips and spikes in the rate of growth, but due to births and immigration, the population has always gone up. As a Boomer, I'm the product of one of those spikes.
Much of the increase during the tenure of "Autopen Joe" Biden was due to illegal immigration. A lot of those illegal aliens are leaving now, voluntarily or otherwise. This, along with a general decline in birth rates, may make 2025 the first year in our nation's history in which the population has declined.
The United States could see its population shrink for the first time ever in 2025 as immigration numbers and birth rates have plummeted, according to a report.
Net international migration to the US in 2025 could drop to as low as negative-525,000 this year, according to an analysis by the American Enterprise Institute. With a net of 519,000 births reported by the US Census last year, the US could possibly lose 6,000 people — the first population decline in nearly 250 years of American history.
AEI predicts that the net immigration into the US will fall off from about 2.8 million to between 115,000 and negative-525,000, which, even at the lower end, is still a 96 percent fall in international immigration, the Telegraph reported.
Even during the American Civil War — when some 700,000 Americans were killed — and during the COVID-19 pandemic, the US population has always increased every year, even if not significantly.
This isn't something unique to the United States. The global population is expected to peak around 2084 and to begin to decline. The only areas that the UN projects seeing an increase in that time are Africa and North America; Europe appears to have already fallen off that cliff, and Asia and Latin America are poised to do so by 2050. Look:
Of course, the New York Post gets one thing wrong with respect to the United States. They refer euphemistically to a drop in "net international migration" in the USA, when what's really driving any leveling-off or decline is the dramatic decrease in illegal immigration. That's a good thing: It opens up jobs, it opens up housing, it reduces the cost of federal and local welfare programs; this dropoff in illegal immigration is providing opportunities for Americans, opportunities that had been taken up by people who shouldn't be in the country at all. Bear in mind also that a significant number of known criminals have been repatriated or imprisoned.

Illegal Alien Numbers in US Drop by 1.6 Million, and Democrats Are Freaking Out Over the Reason
As the old saying goes, the future belongs to those who show up for it. This 2025 decline is almost certainly temporary, driven by the expulsion of illegal aliens and a dramatic drop in illegal border crossings, courtesy of the Trump administration. But our population, from these indications, will continue to increase for the time being. Europe and Asia are the places seeing some very real demographic problems in their near future, although in the case of Europe, that may change after the continent's conversion to a Muslim caliphate.
Of course, all this could change next year. Predictions are hard to make, especially about the future. Oh, as for the Clark family? Four daughters and six grandkids, so far. We've done our part!
