Did LA County Defy the Law on Social Security for Illegal Aliens?

Ever wonder why so many blue jurisdictions are going broke? Not to mention the current fiscal woes of Social Security? One reason may be the disbursement of government benefits to people who aren't legally in the country.

Under the Trump administration, though, a crackdown is coming. Fox News' Bill Melugin, on Monday, brought us the news that Los Angeles County will be investigated by the Department of Homeland Security over claims that they illegally provided Social Security benefits to illegal aliens.

...California’s Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI). This program provides benefits to aliens who are ineligible for Social Security due to their immigration status. DHS’ subpoena requests all records from Los Angeles County to determine if illegal aliens received Social Security Income (SSI) from the Social Security Administration. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Los Angeles field office says their subpoena will include the following:
•Applicant’s Name and Date of Birth
•Copies of Applications
•Immigration Status
•Proof of Ineligibility for SSI from the Social Security Administration
•Affidavits in Support of the Application

DHS's press release - included in Bill Melugin's post as an image - notes that President Trump signed, on April 15th, the "Memorandum Preventing Illegal Aliens from Obtaining Social Security Act Benefits." The release also claims that, under the Biden administration, as many as 2 million illegal aliens received social security numbers illegally, in fiscal year 2024.

This isn't the first time Los Angeles County has favored illegal aliens over the taxpayers.

In 2014, during the Obama administration, Los Angeles County launched the My Health L.A. program, intended specifically to provide health care benefits to illegal aliens at taxpayers' expense.

Immigrants living in the country illegally don’t qualify for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. But beginning Wednesday, they can get free care through a new L.A. County health program that does not require proof of legal residency.
My Health L.A. is designed to benefit the estimated 400,000 to 700,000 unauthorized immigrants in the county without insurance.

This is an unforgivable breach of faith with the taxpayers. Government - at any level, from city and county to federal - taxes us, confiscating a portion of the fruits of our daily labors by force of law - and it anyone is laboring under the misapprehesion that taxes are voluntary, just stop paying and see how long it takes some bureaucrat to send men with guns out looking for you. The very least we should expect in return is that whatever layer of government we're discussing spends our money wisely, to take care of the distributed interests that are the legitimate role of government, and to fulfill the primary role of government, namely, to protect the liberty and property of the citizens.

Giving benefits to illegal aliens fulfills none of those purposes.

We will follow this investigation with great interest. If there is any justice in the world, federal charges should be on the table for any LA County officials who allowed this to happen. On that note, you can color me skeptical, but at least we can expect the Social Security spigot to be shut off for illegal aliens.

Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
