Former Los  Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has finally had enough of the Democrat party and announced Saturday that he is officially moving on from their extremism in a scathing speech and X post.

I’m leaving the party of paid protests, purple hair and pronouns, and joining the party of faith, family, and freedom.

Now that's music to my ears.

He has formally moved on from the Dark Side:

Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva is now a registered Republican after leaving the Democratic Party.

"As of today, I’m leaving the party of paid protests, purple hair, and pronouns. And I’m joining the party of faith, family, and freedom — the Republican Party," Villanueva told the Unite Inland Empire Conservative Conference on Saturday.

"Today I announced ending 44 years as a registered Dem and joining the [GOP] Time to make [California] purple again!" he posted to X.

Villanueva had previously shown signs that he was tiring of the Democrats’ antics.

L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva is Kicking Butt and Taking Names

Villanueva drew the ire of progressives in 2021 when he decided to clean up the Venice Beach boardwalk, which had become a cesspool of homelessness, violence and open-air drug use. How dare he try to “criminalize homelessness,” they argued endlessly—but the results proved their idiocy.

Last summer [2021] LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva sent his homeless outreach team in a promise to clear the Boardwalk within weeks. It took longer than anticipated, but with help from the Saint Joseph Center and a concerted effort from the local councilman's office, some say Venice looks great now.

"it's very very beautiful," said Braa salh, recently visiting from Memphis. "I like the atmosphere. Everybody is free here."

Would you take your family to this dump?

Democrats did not like being shown up, and amid a constant bad-mouthing campaign led by the far-left LA County Board of Supervisors, Villanueva lost his 2022 election against current Sheriff Robert Luna. Now there is a downgrade if I’ve ever seen one.

The Chairwoman of the Los Angeles GOP (this reporter’s spouse) welcomed the move:

"[Alex Villanueva], you are not alone. Many classic liberals have noticed that [the California Democratic Party] has lost their way, and that they champion crime and criminals. You don't *need* to be a Republican to vote for sanity, but it helps," Roxanne Hoge, chairwoman of the Republican Party of Los Angeles, posted to X.

What’s next for Villanueva? A possible Golden State gubernatorial bid? Time will tell. It’s nevertheless a good sign that more and more people are waking up to the disastrous one-party rule that has decimated the state. There’s a mood I haven’t seen in decades among Republicans: hope.
