In what could be a huge moment for parental rights - and in a move that could justify delaying the complete shutdown of the federal Department of Education (ED) for a while, at least - the ED has opened an investigation into the California Department of Education, and their "concealment scheme," in which California schools are tacitly allowed to conceal information from parents - information like their child "socially transitioning."
The California Justice Center's Julie Hamill has details in an X thread.
HUGE DEAL: The United States Department of Education has opened an investigation into the California Department of Education's concealment scheme, codified at AB 1955.

This first post in the thread continues:
California believes children have a constitutional right of privacy from their parents, and advises school districts to create separate files to conceal certain records from parents, in direct violation of FERPA.
California can believe that the moon is made of green cheese, but like this claim of children having a right to privacy from their parents, it just isn't so.
The attached document for the first post in the thread reads:
Today, the U.S. Department of Education's Student Privacy Policy Office (SPPO) launched an investigation into the California Department of Education (CDE) for alleged violations of the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA gives parents the right to access their children's educational data. The California Department of Education has allegedly abdicated the responsibilities FERPA imposes due to a new California state law that prohibits school personnel from disclosing a child's "gender identity" to that child's parent.
The thread continues:
There are several lawsuits pending against the concealment scheme (Mirabelli v. Olson; Huntington Beach v. Newsom; Chino Valley v. Newsom). The balance of this post reads:
This federal investigation buttresses the plaintiffs' claims that concealing records from parents conflicts with federal law and the United States Constitution.
I'm proud to see the California Justice Center quoted in the USDOE press release, but this investigation is not the result of my work alone.

Again, this post continues:
Thank you to all of the advocates who've been fighting tirelessly to end this practice of deceiving parents about what is going on with their children at school, including @ErinFriday75490 @lancelands @DFIPolicy @EmilyRaeTX @LJCenter @PaulJonna @ThomasMoreSoc @Liberty_Ctr and many others. We would not have the evidence to bring this complaint without the bravery of kids and parents impacted by our State's destructive policies.
OK, that's a lot to absorb. But here's a summary: In California, under state law, a school may conceal vital information from a child's parents, including, amazingly, a child's decision to "transition," sexually. This is a horrendous law; this allows activist teachers and administrators to conceal what most would consider a major mental health issue from a child's parents, and it's a violation of federal law, to boot.
That's an utterly unforgivable violation of parental rights. It's an act of gross legislative malfeasance by the California Legislature. And note that, according to the California Justice Center, the law not only allows schools to conceal this information from parents, as noted in the initial X post, but it advises them to do so.
