'The View' Attempts Damage Control for Harris-Walz After the VP Debate - and Fails Miserably

Townhall Media

The legacy media has largely faced facts concerning Tuesday's vice presidential debate between Republican JD Vance and Democrat Tim Walz - namely, that Walz got his butt rather politely handed to him by Vance. But some on the far left - the loony left, in fact - are still attempting damage control. And in the media, short of publications like Mother Jones or The Nation, they don't come much farther left than the crew on "The View."

Yes, they made an effort for Team Kamala Harris, while reluctantly acknowledging the obvious:

"The View" co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said Wednesday that Gov. Tim Walz "dropped the ball" during the vice presidential debate by failing to fact-check Sen. JD Vance.

"I honestly thought from a performance and delivery perspective Tim Walz had the rockier night," Griffin said, despite arguing that Vance's difficulty in responding to a question about Jan. 6 at the end of the debate was the most clipable part of the night.

The "rockier night"? If that's not the understatement of the year, it will do until a better one comes along. This wasn't a rocky night; JD Vance walked all over Tim Walz, in one of the most upbeat and polite shellackings ever delivered since presidential and vice-presidential debates became a thing. Vance was informed, he was focused, and he won the debate in every way--on content, on presentation, on style--by every objective measure.

Not even "The View" can deny that; nor can they deny that Tim Walz was not up for the moment. Griffin continued:

I think JD Vance strategically went in to do 'Midwestern nice' to disarm Tim Walz. And Tim Walz kind of took the bait so he wasn’t in fighting mode. There were some fact checks he could have done that he dropped the ball on.

By "fact checks," of course, Griffin means "talking points," as the only unambiguous statement of fact Tim Walz made in that entire debacle was noting that he is sometimes "a knucklehead." One can't argue with that.

But you can count on "The View" co-hosts to run that spin:

Griffin added, "I was thinking that Josh Shapiro or Pete Buttigieg would have been wiping the floor with JD Vance."

However, she also said that Vance was not authentic and the other co-hosts agreed.

"I found moments where I was like wow, I really want to believe that he's empathetic and feeling for Walz, but I just remember the guy insulting cat ladies," Griffin said.

Not authentic? One of the primary appeals JD Vance has is that he is authentic; he is genuine. JD Vance grew up in a small community in the upper Midwest, as I grew up in a small community in the upper Midwest. I know the kind of person JD Vance is because I grew up around people like him. I know the kind of family JD Vance springs from because I knew many families who suffered through similar issues Vance describes his mother and grandparents going through.

JD Vance is genuine, and in that he just made Tim Walz look all the more phony. And at the top of the phony heap, you have Tim Walz's would-be boss, Kamala Harris.

I suppose we can offer a little credit to Griffin for conceding the painfully obvious: That Tim Walz got wiped out on Tuesday. But, in that last statement, she returned to form; and just watch, the show will be back to calling JD Vance every name in the book while singing the praises of the Harris/Walz ticket within hours of that admission. It's what they do.
