It's coming down to the wire: The Democrats' anointed one, the standard-bearer who was deemed to be the candidate without receiving a single primary vote, will be announcing her vice presidential pick on Tuesday.
Vice President Kamala Harris is bringing her crash search for a running mate to a close, with a final decision expected over the next 24 hours with a video announcement likely to follow sometime Tuesday, according to people familiar with the selection process.
While the precise nature of the rollout is not final, campaign insiders are pointing to President Joe Biden’s 2020 video introduction of Harris as a likely model. A media leak of the pick could upend those plans, they said.
The planned rollout will follow a closely watched final weekend of deliberations. A vetting team led by former Attorney General Eric Holder briefed Harris on the roughly half-dozen final candidates.
Yes, you read that last sentence correctly: Eric Holder, the architect of Operation Fast and Furious, the guy who facilitated the smuggling of guns to Mexican drug cartels, was placed in charge of vetting Her Appointedness' VP picks. That's just too rich for words.
So who are the candidates? We'll find out the winner on Tuesday, but that's no reason not to look at the list today.
Harris on Sunday held interviews with Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz at the vice president’s residence in Washington. A person familiar with the selection process said it was possible that Harris has spoken virtually to other potential picks, or might do so Monday.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker have also been reviewed by the Harris campaign vetting team.
That's a lot of straight white dudes - and Pete Buttigieg.

So, what does each bring to the table?
Senator Mark Kelly: He's from a swing state that has to be part of the campaign's Electoral College strategy, and the campaign may be able to cast him as a moderate (color me skeptical) to offset Kamala Harris's being somewhere to the left of Leon Trotsky.
Governor Josh Shapiro: The same Electoral College consideration applies, but Shapiro is Jewish, which could cost votes in another swing state, Michigan. The Dearbornistan constituency is small but vocal.
Governor Tim Walz: It won't be Walz. He's from a reliably blue state and has all the charisma of a lemon peel; he brings literally nothing to the campaign.
Governor Andy Beshear: He's a popular Democrat governor of a red state that probably won't flip its Electoral College vote - but if there's any hope of that, having Beshear on the ticket wouldn't hurt. Also, the "moderate" consideration applies.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg: His middle name is "incompetent," but then, in the Biden/Harris administration, he has a lot of company. Also, punch the card for "first openly gay vice president, OMG."
Governor JB Pritzker: Nope. This guy, like Tim Walz, brings nothing to the campaign. He's a blue governor of a blue state, a blue state that is just as much a mess as most blue states, and he has zero personal appeal.
Speculating is fun. If I were advising Harris, I'd probably tell her to go with Mark Kelly - not that she's likely to listen to me.
On Tuesday, we'll know. Then we can start picking apart her VP candidate. Stay tuned!
