Greta Thunberg, aka the Doom Pixie, is back in the news. This latest incident was at The Hague, where Miss Thunberg and some fellow protesters decided to block roads leading to a railway station, citing their concern over a "planetary emergency." The Doom Pixie was detained - twice.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has been detained by police in the Netherlands.

The 21-year-old was among dozens of people held after protesters partially blocked a road in The Hague.

After she was released, Ms Thunberg quickly rejoined a small group of demonstrators who were blocking a different road leading to a railway station.

There, she was detained a second time and driven off in a police van.

It is unknown whether the police van was operated by men in white jackets wielding big butterfly nets, which seems unlikely, but that would have been appropriate as well as entertaining.

Miss Thunberg, known in some circles (chiefly here at RedState) by the nom du guerre Pippi Longschpeiling, has a long history of annoying people with her protestations.

Greta Thunberg's War on Prosperity

The protesters, led by Miss Thunberg, wanted The Hague's police and (of course) the media to know they were serious, even if they weren't being taken seriously.

Ms Thunberg told journalists she was protesting because the world is facing an existential crisis.

She said: "We are in a planetary emergency and we are not going to stand by and let people lose their lives and livelihood and be forced to become climate refugees when we can do something."

The demonstrators were protesting against Dutch subsidies and tax breaks to companies linked to fossil fuel industries.

It's important to note that the world is not facing an existential crisis; that's just histrionics. Rest assured that the world will spin on.

One has to give the Doom Pixie credit for persistence if nothing else. (And I give her credit for nothing else.) She has continued her protests through multiple arrests and fines and is generally credited with having inspired young people to join in her ever-more-unhinged climate change protests.

Now she has allies. This latest protest at The Hague was organized in part by Extinction Rebellion, a UK-based group that is known for protests that involve vandalism, blocking roads and walkways, and even impeding emergency vehicles. Extinction Rebellion was, among other things, responsible for disrupting the Easter vigil at New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral on Easter Sunday and screaming during the middle of an opening night performance at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. In the United Kingdom, one of the founders of Extinction Rebellion was recently given a suspended sentence for trying to close Heathrow Airport with a drone.

In response, His Majesty's security services have reportedly moved Extinction Rebellion's case files from the cabinet for "Tiresome" to the "Bloody Annoying" section.

A recent document aired on an American cable channel provided insight into how Miss Thunberg's activism has inspired other young people, although not all the youths depicted are convinced.
