Only days ago we learned of the horrific murder of 22-year-old Laken Riley, and hours afterward we learned that Miss Riley's murderer was in the United States illegally, having passed through our porous southern border. On Monday, former and possibly future President Donald Trump laid the blame for Miss Riley's murder squarely on President Biden and his policies on the border and illegal immigration.

Trump is correct - this case just stinks more and more as we learn the facts.

The facts are damning to the Biden administration; the accused murderer, 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra, an illegal alien from Venezuela (there's that country again), has been in the country for over a year. He never should have been in the country to begin with; when he had brushes with law enforcement in the past, he should have been incarcerated and deported.

In the Truth Social post, the former president states: 

When I am your President, we will immediately Seal the Border, Stop the Invasion, and on Day One, we will begin the largest deportation operation of illegal CRIMINALS in American History!

That deportation will be a challenge. Millions of people have flooded the country illegally since January 2021, and nobody has any idea where most of them have gone. They are out there somewhere. They are doing something. But finding them may be a challenge. The key, to my thinking, is to leverage local law enforcement, they being the people who know their own communities best, including whatever immigrant populations (legal or illegal) that they contain.

On Thursday, finally, President Biden is headed to the border to have a (confused, befuddled, scarcely comprehending) look at things for himself. As my colleague Nick Arama points out, the Border Patrol is unhappy about this grandstanding political stunt.

The Border Patrol Union completely did in Biden's propaganda, pointing out exactly who is to blame for the crisis.

The Border Patrol is right to be pissed off. From the word go, Joe Biden's (or, let's say this quietly, Joe Biden's handlers') policies on border enforcement and immigration have been inexcusable. They have undone everything President Trump did to try to stem the tide, and have done so deliberately. The result is major cities straining to deal with the influx to the point where they are near collapse, increased crime, and now, the murder of an innocent 22-year-old girl who desired nothing more from life than to be a nurse and help people who needed it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Immigration and our southern border (or lack thereof) will be the issues of the 2024 presidential election. There is simply no way Joe Biden can defend his administration's handling of this issue; there is no way they can defend allowing millions of unknown, unscreened, largely military-aged males into the country with little or no effort to stem the flow.

On this issue, the perceived advantage is clearly to Donald Trump. He will surely continue to hammer that point home.
