In the world of politics, when your side and your ideas are getting the living crud kicked out of them, you desperately look for any sliver of hope to latch onto. It's like if your boat sank and you were looking for something that's floating to hold you up. The Democrat Party in the United States right now is in that position, desperately looking for something to grab onto after the November defeat of Kamala Harris and the election of Donald Trump.
I wrote earlier today that MSNBC stalwart Lawrence O'Donnell is going to need to take some more time off because Donald Trump and his new administration are exhausting poor Larry. (MSNBC Host Lawrence O'Donnell Is Exhausted Covering Donald Trump and Needs More Time Off).
The left is taking it hard right now all around.
So the only thing floating in the water for the Democrats right now is the Jeffrey Goldberg story in The Atlantic that has official Washington abuzz.
They are desperate to grab onto it -- or anything else. In case you missed it, here is a recap to bring you up to speed.
Read More: We Need to Talk About Jeffrey Goldberg Accidently Being Added to a National Security Chat
If you were paying attention to the news yesterday, you probably heard about Jeffrey Goldberg being accidentally added to a national security Signal chat that included Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The story is continuing to churn on Tuesday morning, with the mainstream press calling for "accountability."
If you aren't acquainted with Goldberg, he is the editor of The Atlantic, a far-left publication that is infamous for its numerous embellishments over the years (as well as producing some of the most insane pro-Biden headlines ever published). As a "journalist," he is perhaps most known during the Trump era for inventing the "suckers and losers" hoax. That should lead one to first question whether Goldberg is lying about this latest story.
According to the White House, the chat, which was started to discuss then-incoming attacks on the Houthis in Yemen, did exist. Goldberg was inadvertently added to it by National Security Advisor Michael Waltz — or someone on his behalf. President Donald Trump has since given Waltz a vote of confidence, saying that he has "learned a lesson."
What's not clear is whether any actual "war plans" or other classified information were disclosed, which is the heart of Goldberg's contention. The White House is disputing his claim, and given his background, no one should be taking his word for it.
Jeffrey Goldberg is well-known for his sensationalist spin. Here are the facts about his latest story:
— Karoline Leavitt (@PressSec) March 25, 2025
1. No “war plans” were discussed.
2. No classified material was sent to the thread.
3. The White House Counsel’s Office has provided guidance on a number of different…
So, of course, Democrats, particularly those who were in the failed Biden Administration, sense an opportunity to get on CNN and make a case that the Trump Administration is not as competent as the one that they served in. That's where we pick up with Mayor Pete, the former Secretary of Transportation, who had this gem of a tweet.
(Warning: Profanity alert)
From an operational security perspective, this is the highest level of f***** imaginable. These people cannot keep America safe.
Such language, Pete.
If you don't recall that Pete Buttigieg was a bit of a failure in the Biden Administration as the Secretary of Transportation, here is a brief reminder right HERE.
The administration that made Build Back Better the catchphrase of its economic agenda turns out not to be any good at building.
Surely, the pace of the construction of charging stations will pick up, but the slowness out of the gate is a symptom of the folly of attempting to force a radical change in vehicular transportation via government fiat.
Buttigieg insists that “the EV revolution will happen with or without us,” yet it’s off to a sputtering start. It’s less a revolution than a shift in consumer preferences at the margins, especially at the high end of the market among people who can afford to make their second or third car an electric vehicle.
Of course, they're going to make EVs more palatable by people buying them from one of the more successful electric vehicle companies in the country and then burning them with Tesla terrorism. Somehow, that is going to be considered the successful strategy by progressives.
Do I even need to bring up East Palestine, Ohio, and the train derailment that had toxic chemicals on it that Pete and crew mishandled?
Hello, Pete?
So while Pete is worried about the current group in the White House keeping America safe, we know what his track record and the Biden team's track record were, not only with the Ohio incident but also with border security and the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
So, in the interest of moving the country forward, I'm going to suggest that Pete Buttigieg sit this one out, just like he decided to sit out running for office in 2026 in Michigan.
When he puts his mind to it, he can actually do the right thing.
