Let's take a moment and appreciate the fact that since Donald Trump has moved back into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, he has taken DC and the country by storm and that fireworks are bound to happen at any time, not just when a foreign leader is in town.
Not everyone in the country is going to be thrilled about this, and that is the story I'm going to talk about here today. Yet, first a reminder of some fireworks that my colleague Sister Toldjah covered in this story late last month:
Game On: Donald Trump Confronts Maine Governor in Heated Exchange Over Vow to Defy Women's Sports EO
The Governor of Maine had a minor verbal spat with Trump, as shown below.
Maine, in particular, has perhaps earned the most ire from Trump on this front, as on Thursday night at a Republican Governors Association gathering, he said federal funding would be withheld from the state if they refused to comply.
"I hate to tell you this, but we're not going to give them any federal money, they are still saying ‘we want men to play in women’s sports' and I can not believe that they're doing that...," he stated.
And on Friday, things got tense when Trump confronted Maine's Democrat Gov. Janet Mills directly during his greeting to the National Governors Association working session at the White House...
Trump did not mince words
"Is Maine here? The governor of Maine?" Trump said, before locating Mills seated nearby at a table in the White House State Dining Room. "Are you not going to comply with it?"
Mills replied, "I'm going to comply with state and federal law."
"We are the federal law," Trump responded. "You better do it because you're not going to get any federal funding at all if you don't. And by the way, your population ‒ even though it's somewhat liberal, although I did very well there ‒ your population doesn't want men playing in women's sports."
Mills then said, "We're going to follow the law, sir. We'll see you in court."
Trump got the last word in the back and forth. "Enjoy your life after, governor, because I don't think you'll be an elected official afterwards."
ZING and MIC DROP.
Trump knows how to do the mic drop, and when you're the president of the United States and you are controlling the microphone and the room, anyone going up against you is going to be outmatched.
Well, here in my home state of Michigan, we have some school districts that are looking to mix it up with the Trump Administration and the federal dollars that they provide. Now I'm not sure if the people who call the shots in these districts are aware of Trump's sparring with the governor of Maine, but their result is not going to be any better. I read about it right HERE:
Despite the clear directive from President Donald Trump that schools should operate on the understanding there are two biological sexes and keep gender ideology out of the classroom, some are not following through, potentially threatening their federal funding.
Complaints have been filed against four Michigan public school districts — Rochester Community Schools, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools, Hartland Consolidated Schools and Mt. Pleasant Public Schools — alleging their policies on gender identity violate Title IX, the federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination in any education program or activity that receives federal funding.
This seems to be pretty clear-cut and established, but the Democrats continue to embrace confusion, and now that there is a president who is willing to pull federal dollars for those not willing to correct course, they are terrified.
They are just supposed to get the federal dollars, no questions asked.
The federal government’s authority under the Supremacy Clause has been established over state laws that perpetuated segregation and discrimination, for example, following the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
That same argument would seem to apply here. Democrats may see Trump’s executive orders as fleeting and unenforceable. But the applicable law is Title IX.
“These school districts in Michigan have policies that do not protect the rights of young women in bathrooms, locker rooms and sports teams,” says Matthew Wilk, a Plymouth attorney and president of Get Kids Back to School, who signed and filed the complaint on Tuesday against Plymouth-Canton Community Schools.
Hopefully, in his address to the nation tonight, Trump will go over not only the fact that the federal government has spent way too much money on things and also argue that much of that money is wasted. When it comes to education, he'll likely point out that the department that funnels federal money to the states with massive strings attached needs to be challenged and wiped out altogether.
Tonight's address is the perfect time to lay out exactly how the federal government has wasted money, time, and resources, and it's time to put it to a full stop.
