Canadian Parliament Votes Tonight to Approve or Deny Trudeau's Martial Law-Like Power

There is a chance, albeit very slim, that tonight could be the beginning of the Canadian “La Resistance” in the Canadian Parliament to end the authoritarian itch that Justin Trudeau has been scratching really hard the past week. You may think that this analogy is a bit gross but when compared to how Trudeau has unleashed the power of the Canadian government on its citizens, it’s quite fitting.

Here at RedState, we have been covering this story since the very beginning with a mix of admiration and zeal. Even though our countries do border each other, we are different in many ways. One of those ways is just how gosh darn peaceful these protestors have been for over three weeks — no Target has been looted even once. The other major difference is how the Canadians have turned the other cheek as the Trudeau forces have smacked them for peacefully holding up signs asking to remove the mandates.

Americans are not fond of getting hit and smiling about it.

Now, I’m not throwing shade at our cousins to the north of the border with this statement. Remember, Canada was founded around the time that we were telling the King of England to stick it in his ear and those who left the colonies were cool with King George. They have always had a higher boiling point than we Yankees have. We tend to boil pretty fast about political stuff here in the states.

My colleague Nick Arama has covered this story quite extensively and yesterday wrote this —  Crackdown Sparks Even More Massive Protests Across Canada, Crisis for Trudeau — about the protestors’ spirit not being broken. From that article…

The blockades which Trudeau claimed as an excuse, ended peacefully without the use of the Act. Meanwhile, the government has moved on to seizing all kinds of power including conscription of tow truck drivers and seizing bank accounts of people for the “crime” of political opinion. As we noted earlier, the police chief even said they would continue to hunt the protesters — and their finances- down, even after the protests. Trudeau made it clear that part of this — from the very beginning — was because they had “unacceptable views” and that he was cool with kneeling with BLM protesters — just not these guys about whom he has lied so much.

Trudeau has made it clear he feels totally justified in granting himself these powers and tonight, the House of Commons in Canada will vote to either rubber stamp this action or deny him the opportunity to continue to use them. One of Canada’s liberty watchdogs groups just came out this morning asking that the members of Parliament reject giving Trudeau the yes votes he needs to continue this grab of power.

In that statement released by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, they make it clear they are not fans of this ill-advised maneuver by Hair Gel Trudeau. From that press release…

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) is calling on the federal government to revoke the declaration of emergency. If the government fails to do so, a vote is scheduled to take place on Monday evening at 8 PM, and CCLA calls on all parties to vote against the motion, or at a minimum permit individual legislators to vote according to their own personal conscience.

“The government’s own proclamation of emergency was clear: they claimed that they needed to invoke the extraordinary Emergencies Act to deal with the blockades. Those blockades are now dismantled. The sweeping national emergency powers they enacted should be dismantled as well,” said Noa Mendelsohn Aviv, Executive Director and General Counsel of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association.

“Whether the Emergencies Act should have been invoked in the first place is a fundamentally important question that will continued to be discussed, both in the legislature and in the courts. The question that is relevant to parliamentarians today, however, is not whether the government was justified in issuing a proclamation of emergency a week ago. It is whether that proclamation continues to be justified today. The clear answer, in our view, is no.”

“At this time, the proper course of action for the government is to revoke the declaration of emergency. If they fail to do so, members of parliament will be required to attend a vote in the House of Commons to decide if the emergency proclamation should stand. We would urge them to vote against the proclamation and are asking all parties to allow a free vote so that every elected representative is able to vote their conscience.”

Here is a little bit of background here about what is in the press release that is a bit clever.

Trudeau does NOT have a majority of seats in the House right now. According to Wiki, the Liberal Party has 160 seats but needs 170 to have an outright majority. So he had to form a coalition with other parties to get to the 170 seats to remain Prime Minister in the last election that just occurred last September.

While it is fully expected that the motion to approve what Trudeau has done will pass, the parties he formed the coalition with are farther to the left than his party. The C.C.L.A. made a unique plea here.

CCLA calls on all parties to vote against the motion, or at a minimum permit individual legislators to vote according to their own personal conscience.

Asking that the party leaderships allow members to vote their personal conscience on this could open a door for this current government to start to collapse. This is commonplace in Parliament-style governments and means that tonight’s vote could be the beginning of the end of Son of Castro’s   Pierre’s disastrous reign in Canada.

As I said earlier, the parties that did join to give Trudeau the Prime Ministers’ chair last year are farther to the left than the Liberal Party and who knows how they could vote tonight? Do they come to their senses and project forward and consider that if a Conservative P.M. were to do this, it could be them that have their assets seized for protesting against the government? Possibly they just stand pat, being they are scared Trudeau could come after them anyway?

We will find out tonight and no matter what happens, the Canadian people deserve better than what they have been dealt these past four days. I hope they realize it sooner rather than later.
