Two Weeks Into the Trucker Protest in Canada, They Show Fighting for Freedom Is Sexy Again

Canada, I have a bit of a confession to make to you. I might be falling in love with you.

Now, I love my country more than anything, but damn, you are wearing that freedom suit really well these days. My hope is you inspire me and the rest of my country to lose the truck tire-sized apathy around our waists and start following your lead so we can do that freedom thing as we have in the past.

After 12 days of your magnificent peaceful protest, I thought it would be a good time to check in and do a brief recap of what has happened. Canada, I know you have been really busy and I can’t recap everything here in one post but I will revisit most of it soon.

The police in your capital city of Ottawa have passed a temporary 10-day ordinance that any of the truckers that blasted their horns would be ticketed and possibly arrested. So what did you marvelous people do? You stopped blaring the horns. One of your citizen journalists, “The Real Pat King,” showed live last night just how quiet the city had become while your Parliament was in session, debating things other than what is actually happening in the country.

Here is a brief clip of your Prime Minster speaking to his colleagues and all of you, about how he sees things after being absent for the first 10 days of this peaceful protest.

Individuals are trying to blockade our economy, our democracy, and our fellow citizens’ daily lives and it has to stop. People of Ottawa don’t deserve to be harassed in their own neighborhoods, they don’t deserve to be confronted with the inherent violence of a swastika flying on a street corner or a confederate flag or the insults and jeers just because they are wearing a mask. That’s not who Canada or Canadians are, not what Canadians demonstrated over the past two years of consistently continually being of being there for each other. The people of Ottawa indeed the people across the country deserve to have their safety respected and deserve to get their lives back.

Now, far be it from me, Canada, to correct or refute your Prime Minister but it seems to me that the last part of his quote above…

The people of Ottawa indeed the people across the country deserve to have their safety respected and deserve to get their lives back.

is exactly what you are doing.

You are demanding that the safety of your citizens be put first and mandates not be passed by fiat and to respect the will of free people.

You are respectfully — and quite frankly, cheerfully — saying it is way past time to get your lives back and you are demonstrating this by holding BBQ’s and playing hockey right in front of the seat of your national government.

You are opening your arms and hearts to those truckers who are petitioning your government to stop the knee-jerk mandates and taking care and looking out for one another. The thousands of hours of video showing this all across your country can not be refuted by your national media. Plus you are all doing this while being incredibly neat and tidy as another one of your citizens and member of the press in good standing, Andrew Lawton, pointed out.

The federal and local governments have thrown up obstacles at you, calling you awful names, and you smile back at them. They say one or two kooks in a massive crowd holding a confederate flag represents all of you and you politely ask the person to leave. I have been over to your country many times and had your beer and it never made me this pleasant. So when this is all over I’m going to ask you what your secret is because if it is not bottled yet it should be.

I know Canada we have not always seen eye to eye on stuff. We Americans can get a bit impatient — if the King doesn’t meet our demands in a timely manner (even though the boat trip back in the 1770s took three months), we tend to pop off and declare a revolution. Plus we still have not gotten over you giving us Nickelback but we always forgive these things.

Yet in all of your 154 years of existence as our best pals to the north, you have always been calm and collected and it seems you never enjoyed pushing the envelope politically as we do. Well, today you have not only shown us here in the states but clear across the globe how to do a protest and do it well.

You are looking great for your age and that freedom suit you are modeling fits better than ever. Keep on trucking and doing what you are doing and we will keep on watching and pulling for you.

Also, we do forgive you for Nickelback.
