Trucker Protests in Canada Escalate, Justin Trudeau Evacuated to 'Safe Place'

On Saturday, the Trucker protest that has been making its way through Canada reached the capital city of Ottawa. With it came some incredible scenes — and some confrontations.

Per RedState’s prior reporting, the 45-mile-long convoy, the largest in history, is seeking to spread a message of freedom, opposing draconian, ineffective COVID-19 mitigation measures. That includes a vaccine mandate for truckers. As anyone with half a brain can ascertain, the idea that a person sitting alone in the cab of a truck needs to be forced to vaccinate in order to “protect” others makes no sense whatsoever.

Pictures and video have helped capture the scale of the protest, which is causing the Canadian government quite a bit of headache.

Unfortunately, instead of listening to the concerns of those who keep the supply chain moving in Canada, the government is trying to paint them as some kind of domestic terrorists. Where have we seen that before? Prime Minister Justin Trudeau even took the absurd step of evacuating to a “safe place,” with the protest in town.

As far as I can tell, there is no reason to believe the truckers and the rest of the people in the convoy have any intentions of doing anything but peacefully protesting. Feigning a domestic threat is the go-to move of tyrannical governments the world over right now, so it’s not surprising that Trudeau would respond this way.

In fact, the only sign of a physical confrontation came from a counter-protester who stole and desecrated an American flag, screaming “get out of my city, you anti-vaxxer scum” to his victim. As you can see, the church of COVID is taking things really well.

Unfortunately, I don’t get the feeling that Trudeau and the rest of his cohorts care about this protest. Why would they? The Canadian people continue to put them in power and they have every reason to feel bulletproof. Besides, it does seem as if a majority of Canadians like the mandates. Much like Australia, there is odd obedience when it comes to the government supposedly “helping” people, even when the measures in place make no sense.

That’s why federalism in the United States is so important. It breaks up the totality of government power and allows people to find safe havens in places like Florida, Texas, and much of the deep South. Still, I certainly hope the truckers in Canada are able to make some headway.
